Is it normal to update a Windows 10 Pro x64 Version 1607 by running the setup from a Windows 10 Enterprise x64 Version 1703 ISO and it comes out after the install as Windows 10 Pro x64 Version 1703 instead of Windows 10 Enterprise x64 Version 1703? What did I do wrong? Should I have done a clean install? How come the Windows 10 Enterprise transformed into a Windows 10 Pro?
The installer will choose the upgrade path that allows for continued activation--it probably said it was going to install Pro the installation was about to start. If you started with a Pro installation the new one will also be Pro, especially if you used an .iso that can install a multitude of versions (for example on that has Pro, Enterprise and Education or the like). The way to get Enterprise on the system is to use an .iso that has only that version; however, I doubt it will come out activated. You can find an Enterprise only .esd on the front page but you'll have to do the language thing again unless you can find a pure Enterprise .iso in your language.
But that's the one I just used (the one I created a while ago)! It only has Enterprise x64! It doesn´t matter if it would come out deactivated. I'd activate it then.
Go throw all the hoops to getting a stable system .. then Windows update screws up the system with this auto driver updates .. utter joke this? it's a ever lasting battle you put the latest drivers on your system then windows update decides these are not good enough .. also due to the update now you end up with screen blackouts what last for around two seconds .. yet the last two previous builds were extremely stable with drivers and updates ..
What did the last step before the installation started say? Usually it will say what version it's going to install and gives you a choice of what to keep or not to keep in the way of apps, files or nothing. If that didn't work I'd say a fresh install of that .iso would be the way to go. Is there a feature in Enterprise that you need or do you just want that version? For most people Pro covers all the bases.
I don't think it said the version which it was going to install, but I'm not sure. Yes, I remember it asked If I wanted to keep or not to keep those things (I chose the option to keep). Well, the thing is I can't do a clean install in this PC... No, just for show off and because I have Enterprise in my other PCs...
Well if your not willing to start over and recreate your configuration then I would just keep the Pro and forget the bragging rights, especially if it will work for you. I've upgraded my system from 7-->th1-->th2-->rs1, and now this new build so I wouldn't have to re-create my whole life after a fresh install, and things have gone surprisingly well despite my prior thinking that upgrades would only cause problems.
Unfortunately, the PC isn't mine so I wanted to keep the files. That's why I shouldn't do a clean install.
You could back up the files and then do a clean install. Does the person whose system it is really care or know the difference? Unless they're hammering you over this, just give them what I assume is a well-working Pro system.
No, I simply want that PC to have the same edition as the others. I didn't even tell him that I was going to do this...
Well, unless they're going to make a big fuss about it I don't really think it's worth your effort. Did you do an Enterprise upgrade to the Creators Update on the others? If so they must have started with Enterprise. And if they had this one with Pro, then they should be satisfied with the new Pro.
I just checked in the other PC and it doesn't say which version will be installed, only asks if I want to keep my files and settings. In this PC it says it will install Enterprise and also if I want to keep my files and settings. Is it normal? Is it because in this PC I already had Enterprise installed and in the other I had a different version (Pro)?
While that gives me a brief idea, this is the first time i hear of windows10 fod -- typically what would you use it for? so there's an iso of it, does it contain a version of win10 os that is bare and where you can add features manually "on demand" or something?
