I'm wondering that how long does it take to create all editions vs only Enterprise edition? Since it depends on how fast connection one has and how fast hardware one has, maybe the right question would be How long time difference between the two? I know it also depends on the same things I've mentioned but for reference, if you tell me the time difference in your case that'll be great for comparison. Thanks!
The creation of the virtual editions just takes a minute or so, downloading (for those on slow connections) and the updates integration take the most time, all depending on the settings and hardware used of course. Example, on my old i7 3770 with 16GB ram and using a ssd, this takes xx min to complete: Downloaded UUP files: Code: .README coren_en-us.esd core_en-us.esd I thought i read somewhere, @abbodi1406 mentioning he now only updated the base indexes Home and Home N, and set-edition to Pro and Pro-N (offline upgrade), i suggested earlier, and use the new method by @whatever127 for all other Pro+ virtual editions. But i see it is going to update Home (+N) and Pro (+N), so all 4 base indexes. Correction: he actually now uses the method of only updating the Home and Home N index and offline upgrade them to Pro and Pro N, and next he uses the new method by @whatever127 to create all other sku's. I got confused when i saw this line in the progress window: Code: ============================================================ Updating install.wim / 4 image(s) . . . ============================================================ This still takes a huge amount of time (approx. 8 min for the downloading and conversion, approx. 55 min for updating and upgrading to Pro and Pro N and 2 min for creating the Pro+ virtual editions), for faster progress option addupdates=2 will create a baseline ISO with the updates installed during windows installation, by $OEM$ folder.
If you create all editions using Home, HomeN, Pro, ProN as your sources there will be 4 indecies that would require updating and compilation that takes the most time. So multiply your experience using only the Pro version to create Enterprise by 4 and you'll have a good idea of how long it will take to do them all. Creating the virtual editions takes minutes as stated by @Enthousiast. Though that wasn't always the case as the method used to create virtual editions was way slower before they switched to a more efficient method. I myself only use Pro as my source and create all available editions for it as I would never install a Home edition on any of my devices or any device I work on unless they really really want it for some reason and am no longer compelled to hoard and make AIO ISO's. And likewise with N versions as they are gimped and useless in my opinion. All of the editions that can be created from Pro are good enough for me and my clients.
Test finished, i have added and corrected some info: https://forums.mydigitallife.net/th...x-pc-19h1_release.79259/page-248#post-1550748
I'm trying to get an ISO as similar as Business ISO (en_windows_10_business_editions_version_1903_updated_sept_2019_x64_dvd_a10b235d.iso) which has the versions below. No Home included. Code: Windows 10 Pro Windows 10 Pro N *Windows 10 Pro for Workstations *Windows 10 Pro N for Workstations Windows 10 Pro Education Windows 10 Pro Education N Windows 10 Education Windows 10 Education N Windows 10 Enterprise Windows 10 Enterprise N What I understood so far is, since those all versions need only Pro to be created then it won't take much time as you mentioned. So it's not 4x but 2x because it'll only update Pro and Pro N. I agree with you about N versions too, so removing N versions from virtual list will result (almost) the same time as creating only Enterprise. And probably won't increase the file size much. So, thank you and @Enthousiast once again for the info. Well, alright then, thanks for the details. My quest is now using Pro as source and creating all versions except N ones and it'll take almost the same amount of time to create the ISO. I also won't use Cleanup and Resetbase to stay as close as to the business ISO and stay safe. I read using one of them caused update issues after installation. That might be fixed but again, it's ok to have a bit larger file size. I can always split install.wim to make it FAT32 compatible. Code: Dism /Split-Image /ImageFile:D:\sources\install.wim /SWMFile:E:\sources\install.swm /FileSize:3800 addupdates=2 seems a good trick for faster process. I'll keep that in mind too. Thanks.
You will save the old dism set-edition time for Home + N to be offline upgraded to Pro +N. You can easily use the "create install.esd=1" option to get it FAT32 capable. The basic cleanup function (/startcomponentcleanup) was breaking the ability for installing the incorrectly compiled IP updates from the range 18362.239 up, till 18362/3.356 (if i remember correctly). Now you should be able to even use the full resetbase option, it skips 1903/9+ LCU's when running. And if something goes wrong, we always have the FIX by @abbodi1406
ESD option seems fine but my experience with it on low end hardware was like a nightmare as it needs compression and decompression which stressing CPU much and takes quite long time (on low end h/w). I guess windows installation time will also negatively affected with compressed ESD file. I find splitting option more resource friendly. Oh, here we have a new idea: Why don't we have "split wim=1" option in the script to make it FAT32 compatible as a more resource friendly "create install.esd=1" alternative? @whatever127
I use it on every install on every hardware, if win 10 can be installed, it will be able to use install.esd, applying the install.esd is the same process as applying wim or swm, afaik. If you want you can simply create an iso containing a wim and use this simple "tool" to create an iso, containing either one compressed install.esd or multiple split wim (swm) files: https://forums.mydigitallife.net/th...-install-esd-install-swm-creation-tool.78925/
Doesn't simply disabling the internet connection during setup or giving them a bunk email address work to enable the local account creation page? I use Enterprise and that's what I do (bunk email address) every time I do a clean install.
Wow, and because it’s only on Home editions, I think this is the new world of MS. And then it’s a pro feature to log in via a local account.
MSFT already released 1909 in sept. to insiders, starting with releasing the 1909 Enablement Package, next the 18363.327 ISOs and last, the 18363.356 ESDs, or didn't they?
OK I will ask a different way. Will they merge the Slow Ring & the Release Preview Ring today 30 Sept. 2019 ?
