Fastest Win10 Upgrade install I've ever had... Most likely most of this is because of my new boot drive, a Samsung EVO 850 250GB... However, I still think 15.5 minutes is a great time from the second I hit the "reboot to install" button (upgraded to 10122 on top of 10074) in accordance with the Fast Ring instructions, until I was booted up to a usable 10122 desktop! Slowest time on a Win10 build iso-based upgrade for me was *2 hours*...! Fastest time on a Win10 build clean install was 25 minutes (both with decently fast platter drives.) Even with the EVO, I can see that Microsoft has done some work on the upgrade code...!
Must be an SSD! Otherwise that timing would be impossible with an normal HDD, even an 15k/rpm SCSI Ultra HDD!
Clean install for me from USB to a Samsung Evo drive takes about 10 minutes. Upgrade from 10074 to 10122 took about 7-8 minutes I think. What I don't like is the upgrade taking almost 4 hours on a 5400 RPM drive laptop I have. I know it's a slow hard drive, but 4 hours is a little over the top, imo.
I think it is impossible with an SSD, but I am curious enough to ask. Now we'll see if we can get a straight answer. ETA @nictorn - EVO's are great drives, as are the PROs, have several of them. Next time I do a clean install I'll have to time it...
I installed 81 Ent. on and ULTRA SCSI 15000/rpm using an Adaptec 2930 Controller within 12min and that could be beaten by an new SSD with an min. 550MB/s write transfer speed by about the half of time! So, an SSD could be possible to install W10 in about 5-6min!
i7 4790k clocked at 4.7ghz 16gb's of ram and hyper x furry memory vertetx 4 ssd and a SSD speed usb 550mb/s read and write
Cool, thanks I have several Vertex 4 256s from my OCZ days - good solid drives. A i7490k is on its way to me as I type this... as well as an ASRock Extreme 6 USB 3.1 mobo - 10 SATA - room for lots of SSDs. I don't do OCing...too much of a sissy...
Weather works for me after a fresh install, however, the people app opened one time and now, still crashes
Videos on Youtube and other Streaming sites like Netflix takes forever to load (the websites themselves work fine though), sometimes they don't work at all and I have to refresh the page. Im guessing its the user agent, and most websites are hiccupping on Windows 10 user agent
Just found this on another web site, this may be MS's Ace in the hole, will not apply to Window Insiders, so join. Let me just add another reply that just had me wondering. If Microsoft says the UPGRADE is FREE then, they must be referring to ONLY the upgrade and not a CLEAN STAND ALONE COPY of Windows 10. So it is safe to bet that UPGRADING is FREE so long as you own a previous copy of Windows and you won't have to pay a small free like you did before. HOWEVER, if you want the RTM FULL ISO installation, then my best guess is you'll have to pay FULL PRICE for the stand alone installation copy. Food for thought guys!
I've got several San Disk Extreme USB 3.0 sticks, they are noticeably faster than my other USB 3.0 sticks. Burning a Win 10 iso to them is quick quick quick.
