The 4 digit pin is optional, if you uncheck the "4-pin" option you can choose a much longer pin but the thing is you gain nothing by doing so. The Pin is LINKED with your Hardware. The Pin option alone isn't new, this has been in Windows 8 too, whats new is that it supports more than just Windows Logon but at least currently you can't use it for anything more but logon. We don't know how Microsoft is going to handle it, if you upgrade right now you endup with Pro even though they blogged that Home/Core is getting Home and not Pro so either they will downgrade at RTM or they will actually "gift" Pro upgrades to Insiders even if they upgraded from Home/Core SKUs as long as they were geniue.
I don't think you have to care at all, just upgrade normally.. either they downgrade you (which is unlikely as there is no real downgrade support) or they give you pro, nothing to lose really.
Did you test it? There are no Core/Home ESD's as far as i can see so the upgrade process could only bring you to Windows 10 Pro. Edit: Ok maybe they do exist but i haven't seen anyone with them? 10122.0.150513-1845.fbl_impressive_CLIENTCORE_RET_x64fre_en-us.esd only en-us too listed.
