Anyone know how he got the defender icon back? I can't find it in any of the recent builds. Would be nice to have some more control over it again.
I'm on 8.1 now, but can you click on start button, find defender in their, right click on it and select pin to taskbar
I've been noticing that that since Build 10114 that the start menu shows tiles aligned by 3 columns per group. I'm currently on 10125, and my tiles are still aligned by 4 columns. Is this based on screen resolution? I would actually like 3 columns- as it would mirror how my windows phone start screen looks. Note: Resizing does not snap per column...
It's based on a clean install vs not. If you're upgrading from previous builds that had 4, it stays 4. Otherwise, you get 3. Personally, I'd rather 4. The asymmetrical layout that 3 gives just looks terrible when you're using wide and large tiles.
Nevermind I forgot you could open it up in settings. That made the icon appear. Too bad you have to go disable the service entirely or else it'll start up randomly. If defender was competent this probably wouldn't be a problem but until then its just annoying because it causes blue screens with some other better anti virus programs.
anyone get anywhere with "Network Beta" yet. All mine does is bring up the app and sits there. Opps Now it says coming soon.
Yes it is two groups. Other builds I only had one group and had to scroll down to see them all. I like this better.
Settings->Update and security->Windows Defender->Scroll to the bottom and click Use Windows Defender Doesn't seem to survive a reboot though...
Yes I know that. What I also like with this build and the last one is I can bring up the start menu on any one of my monitors at any time. That is cool and did not have that in other builds or 8.1 or 7
Defender needs to be running for this. Go to Modern Settings > System > Notifications & actions > Select which icons appear on the taskbar and turn on Windows Defender from the list. Some how Windows Defender does not auto start in my installation of Windows, so I have added this to my start up: Code: "C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MSASCui.exe" -hide
And do you all think Windows is getting ready for RTM? That's a shame, but I don't think so, not even near Oh, y ahora, ¿quien podrĂ¡ defenderme?
Ah, but it all depends on what you mean by "RTM." The rules have changed. Even "GA" is not well defined any more. Increasingly, the important measure is the delta between declared RTM and real GA.
I updated from 10074 with 10125 and had to keep clicking on next at the 'welcome back' screen. The ring thing kept rotating and it rebooted a number of times and just finally before I gave up it progressed and completed ! The install process is obviously doing a lot here with not much indication and would appear to many as though it has hung.
The same thing happened to me, so I ended up burning iso and it worked fine that way it would not let me sign in, tried several times, then burned iso. I guess what i'm trying to say is it is better to burn ISO rather than just downloading one and clicking on it -setup, I learned my lesson.
Seems you need to keep trying more than several times! I was on the point of giving up when it finally progressed to completion. This part of the upgrade process definitely needs some attention from M$ otherwise many will abort the upgrade assuming it has hung.
