Yep also possible. I still think personally there will be a key as a failsafe. Once upgraded to Windows 10 just search for your product key in the system guarantee it would have changed from your 7/8.1 key and can be injected after an OS install anyway (not that it will be needed) But if swapping the licence to another PC the key could still be used and phone activated. Remember Retail copys of windows stay retail after the upgrade so have the right to move machines.

It may just be that the Microsoft activation server cloud will just update your 7 / 8 product key as valid for use and activation on both your previous OS and Windows 10.

    Hello,
I was looking for information on what the acronyms in the name of a pre version of Windows 10. From what I saw, the winman branch is final. And many branches are future service pack versions. I see many versions that are released are the fbl_impressive type. Anyone have any link that explains what each abbreviation or branches there

    regards

We will see, personally im using my own free WMC key with the default key, who knows if the "original" key is even kept in the system to begin with if it were they could just read that key instead of your wmc key and thus all th epeople that used the WMC trick wouldn't get a copy :p

AFAIK that one coudln't be updated because:
    • it's Windows 8 and NOT 8.1

First you need to update to Windows 8.1 Pro and than you could use an regular Upgrade to Windows 10 on July 29.!

What do you mean by "WMC trick"? At the launch, MS officially distributed WMC keys to people that bought W8 Pro, and I've used 3 of them
Anyway I've got the original W8 key sent by e-mail :D

Just upgrade to 8.1 With WMC via windows update. You can then update to Windows 10 and fresh install Windows 10 after you have done that. It will work fine. Also being from a Retail channel that means your new Windows 10 Activation will also be Retail so can transfer to another PC if you wish with phone activation. Your final Result will be Windows 10 PRO Retail.

What are you talking about, the free WMC keys were all for 8.0 it has nothing to do with what version you are running. If you run Windows 8.1 Pro with WMC you are still using the 8.0 Key, just like you may be using a 8.0 retail key and updated to 8.1, it makes no difference. The real question will be if the exploiters will get W10 or not and that's really all there is, if you had legit W8 Pro you were able to use the free WMC key but when it came out they screwed up and the free WMC keys activated KMS copies into the Retail channel and you could use the WMC key standalone even after that which is what i have been doing, literally just used my WMC key 2 days ago again because i reinstalled Windows.

The free upgrade does not include the ability to transfer, you still really only own the previous version of Windows while 10 is just a offer, if you want the ability to transfer you will need a new W10 key and that will work for the future as a whole, it may also be possible to get a new Key from Microsoft support if you make up some bulls**t story like your mainboard is dead and Windows 10 no longer activates.

No Windows 10 WMC update is the problem.

They have said it converts to Just Windows 10 Pro. ;) Unless i guess you have Windows 8.1 Home with WMC then your just get Windows 10 Home.

    Editions info below:

    Untitled-2.jpg

They have also said old keys are consumed. If you have a retail 7/8/8.1 key prior to Windows 10 upgrade your new Windows 10 install will also be on the retail channel. You can transfer this to another PC. If however you have an OEM install and upgrade to Windows 10 you wont be able to transfer this to another PC. This was confirmed in the Q&A for Windows 10. OFC this doesnt mean you have use the Install on multiple PC's at once. We are not sure on how this will work yet though unless Windows 10 does indeed still have a key system.

You simply get Windows 10 Pro, there is no WMC in Windows 10.

Do yourself a favor and check with Microsoft Website or here an MDL about the update from Windows 8! Microsoft stated clearly that the Windows Update will work for either Windows 7 SP1 and/or Windows 8.1 but Windows 7 without Sp1 or Windows 8!

There several post about the free upgrade on this forum, Microsoft Website and the Internet!

There will be NO WMC on Windows 10 and even if you upgrade from and Windows 8.1 Pro WMC, the WMC will be removed within the upgrade.

And I'm to bed now, it's near midnight in Thailand (23:40)!
