    There is no actual proper reason for skipping 9. Also, ever heard of build jumps? 853X -> 8888 -> 9200, there's maybe 1-2 builds between 853X and 9200, they've been doing this for ages.

    A few examples:
    WinXP - 254X -> 2600
    Vista - 584X -> 6000
    7 - 726X -> 7600

    Yep and they throw a big shin ding to celebrate RTM sign-off. Hence the two weeks before they "let the genie out of the bottle."
