I think the point was that it's a waste of time cleaning an existing installation prior to the upgrade if you do not intend to keep it afterwards. No need to clean out a current installation if first thing you do after the upgrade/activation is a clean install. Removing all the stuff that might cause the upgrade to fail is all that is necessary. Cleaning out only makes sense if you keep the upgraded installation.
He was just saying if you were not going to do clean install, clean up as best you can, even though that is not recommended way to go.
installed 10162 from scratch, looks like everything is running fine, except my RTL8111 NIC. unit is installed, but says 'networkcable unplugged'. tried latest drivers, no difference.....
I downloaded 10162 officially ISO and make it bootable USB, But it can't boot (only with the ISO created from esd file).
dude... I know how to set up a network, cables are all ok, verified with fluke equipment. system was running ok, network too. just after installing this build, it stopped functioning. It must me a software issue, havent found a solution yet....
Since 10162 I started getting errors and the PC restarting itself - error WDF VIOLATION came up on screen. I was downloading, and it was rather annoying for the machine to keep restarting. Googling the message, one thread on Win 8.1 mentioned about a USB external hard drive causing problems. I disconnected my external USB drive, and have had no more errors for the last 3 hours (still downloading). I was not getting this problem with 10135, and the same USB drive was permanently attached. Maybe a coincidence or not ?? PS The error with not being able to see other PCs on your HOMEGROUP has still not been fixed. Only a problem if you use the PIN for login - change back to a proper password and all Network PCs are visible and work correctly.
I think what is really necessary is to just disable the start up programs. Anything that does not start up with the OS can be dealt with later.
