The whole point MS decided to release a RTM early this year was to take advantage of the back-to-school shopping season happening in August. If they could not get their new OS, AND allow the OEMs enough time to get their devices ready before August, then MS is fxxked. I don't think that's the plan in Nadella's mind.
I'm not an American citizen so I cannot exactly say when school restarts/University semesters start but I only can review years back when this procedure happened more likely to the end of September and the beginning of October rather than in early August or even before. Please correct me in that
In the US almost all colleges start by the middle of August or earlier and even highschools start in August as well. So the buying season for both is already here.
Schools in the U.S. often begin between the last week of August and the 2nd week of September. Some are earlier than others. It makes sense that they'd try to get them ready for the school push.
that would indicate that MS always was late with sales start? If so I have nothing to say except "poor MS" If new management has adopted to the "real" world, I certainly can understand that they are pushing RTM earlier than usually expected
