I wouldn't mind doing a clean install. My only concern is losing my legit activation. I originally upgraded from 8.1, & I've been reading some posts about how some people have trouble with activating after a clean install.
What you can do before attempting the upgrade? You can do some pre-requisite tasks to ensure a smooth migration to Windows 10. If you are using a name brand computer such as a Dell or HP, go to the manufacturers website for the model computer you are using and download the latest available drivers for that computer. Store them on a disc or USB thumb drive. Important drivers you should try to obtain include Chipset, Network and Video Drivers. Its possible that they might have only Windows 7 drivers, those will work with Windows 10. Other things you can do: 1.Uninstall any security software before attempting to upgrade. 2.Disable any encryption software you might have installed. 3.Disable/uninstall disk utility software such as DVD/CD burning utilities or third party defragment programs such as Perfect Disk. 4.Make sure your computer is updated (devices and applications). 5.Disconnect any external devices before installing. 6.Check your hard disk for any errors: - Click Start - Type: CMD - Right click CMD then click Run as administrator At the Command Prompt, type: chkdsk /r /f Exit the command prompt. When you restart your system, your computer will be scanned for errors and attempts will be made to correct them. 7.Another thing you can do is disable Start items: •Click Start •Type: MSCONFIG. •Hit Enter on your keyboard •On the General tab, click Selective Startup. •Under Selective Startup, click to clear the Load Startup Items check box. •Click the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All. •Click OK. •When you are prompted, click Restart. •After the computer starts, check whether the problem is resolved. Run the System File Checker utility. SFC/Scannow checks your Windows installation for errors and corrects them. This will help with ensuring that a smooth upgrade occurs. Do the above, you have already upgraded, so all you have to do is clean install, if you do the above it will read from your BIOS your retail or OEM number and you will be activated. Don't worry about what you've read, most don't know what there doing
do you have a backup image you can put on that takes you back to 8.1 Pro with WMC. You will lose WMC as it is no more after you upgrade Follow rules in Post 2047, after you complete that you need to UPGRADE to 10240, after UPGRADE you can clean install, but follow what it says in Post 2047, except you do need to upgrade first
already made my AIO VL from the 3 .esd files. Intergrated the gvlk key and all for MTK. This build is great, can feel no difference to 10176
Anyone on an en-US build, try using "Hey Cortana, tell me a joke" or "Hey Cortana, what's the weather?" and see if she works. Right now she's telling me she can't connect in more or less words. Wondering if build issue or something else. Search has an exception in Windows Firewall and no other AV/FW installed.
not bashing win 10 I just spend $5,000.00 a home built pc and this OS looks very cartoonish build 10240 runs ok just not my cup of tea think I move back to win 7 will I lose anything besides directx12 ?
How to get Cortana turned on, Windows 10 10240 Enterprise, fresh install, been all over looking in the registry, yes, it is signed into my msn account, works with pro. Is there a Policy setting? any help Please
Cortana working fine, jokes and all. I've had zero problems in 36 hours. I've seen others with different probs on thread, but none here. Maybe a bad install or driver , good luck
She can't hear you, right click on sound icon in taskbar and select recording devices, click on microphone you are using, then select properties at bottom of box, then select levels at top, everything in this box needs to be set at 100%, apply, then OK,OK, reboot, now try, set your name with her too.
No, his is showing "disabled by company policy". Cortana does not need a microphone to be enabled in Home/Pro.
