how i said in my post, i was on an oem of 8.1.1 core, i registered at the insiders webpage, clicked get started, windows update opened and downloaded a few files then the first technical preview which was pro, I've updated through win update with every build, they've all been pro, don't know what will happen if i opt out of insiders after the 29th, i think i'll stay an insider, on this machine at lest,so i can keep pro.
Hi Everyone, I have 2 laptops that came with windows 8.1 pre-install (genuine) The key for these is store in the system bios My question is should I wait till 29th & upgrade to windows 10 (to be safe) Or use the build 10240 to upgrade & If I upgrade with 10240 & will it activate & after I upgraded can I wipe the system & do a clean install any advice please as ive read you must upgrade before you can do a clean install
you have waited this long, maybe you aught to wait a little longer. You are not missing out on anything that cannot wait
Yes! OK then, that's exactly as i suspected.. So if I clean install now, and skip entering key, I should be activated and the channel should be Retail right ? I ll try myself and update the results
ah there is a bit of agony here , i can't recieve the build in windows update , i'm build 1066 and it's linked to my insider email and set to fast ring and tried slow too and removed the keys from the registry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsSelfHost\Applicability)... still big NO !
Information from first post ACTIVATION NOTICE*: Upgrade from a Win7 (activated by daz loader in BIOS or CSM mode) or a legit 7/8/8.1 activated system (no KMS) After upgrade, make sure your system is activated After your system was activated you can clean install and just skip the key entry and it will be activated I tried this method on Virtual machine and that working ( system is permanently activate ).
Sorry to see you go through such ordeal to get your Windows computer running without any satisfaction. That is what some of us have passed through in early testing of the operating system but always keeping our heads high hoping to find solutions. However, I would advise you install your system maker chipset first and check for Windows update if there is a better graphic driver for your system. After taking that step and you are still experiencing this problem, it is time to do clean install. It's always been the easy way to having a fairly working Windows 10 operating system at this point in time.
Why aren't there more people concerned about the difficulty in turning Windows Updates off (through the GUI), as well as not being able to select which updates to be installed? I thought MS was moving in a more open source fashion, opening up the codebase to .NET and potentially even one day Windows, not actually wanting to lock it down worse than Windows 8.1! If anything, it would answer a lot of conspiracies as to what kind of spying Windows really does do on the user, if the source code was available.
Well, I enter into Safe Mode using the System Configuration and restart the system. The keyboard works properly but it an 'integrated' keyboard for laptops though.
