At this point I would say Classic shell for a free program. However StartisBack++ is great and my go to program for putting a proper start menu back in. That being said I am opposed to using Windows 10 given the crappy state of the GUI.
abbodi1406 is kindly telling us about such infomation: Code: Image Index: 1 ------------------- Name: Windows 10 Pro Description: Windows 10 Pro Flags: Professional Files: 94284 Folders: 18986 Expanded Size: 13100 MB Image Index: 2 ------------------- Name: Windows 10 Home Description: Windows 10 Home Flags: Core Files: 93631 Folders: 18870 Expanded Size: 13003 MB We can use anything for Name and Description. But the flags, aka EditionID, must match for the recognition of a specific Edition. For a custom image, we can find the flags (EditionID) from: Code: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion] "EditionID"="Professional" "ProductName"="Windows 10 Pro"
You have gone the wrong way. For a free copy of Windows 10, the legitimate Windows 8.1 Core must be upgraded to Windows 10 Core via Windows Update once at least. 3 options: 1. go back to Windows 8.1 Core and start from the scratch 2. keep opted-in for endless free copies of activated Windows 10 Pro preview builds (Final Release is treated as one of the preview builds.) 3. opt out and activate Pro edition illegally, or buy a new key. You want a copy of WORKING Windows 10 and NOT being a FREE Beta tester for Microsoft. No?
on this computer the one that had core and now pro,i'll stay as insider,my other that had 8.1 pro,now the insider edition,i will opt out and stay reg,the other 8.1 pro is waiting for upgrade on the 29th.
Glad to hear that. Good for you. If you want me to post MS ESD link, feel free to leave a message. Of course, you must stay here waiting for the link, for it is time-bombed.
i was upgrading to win 10 enterprise from win 8.1 enterprise and got this message: "windows 10 installation has failed something happened" during the process, then it quit! Anyone help me solve this, please. Thanks
i am a bit confused, did anybody that was on 8.1 core, and become an insider receive core through win update,or were all the builds through win update pro.
After using Windows 10 10240 for a few days (clean install), I can say it's been a very smooth experience. Everything that worked on Windows 8.1 appears to be working just fine on Windows 10. The major annoyances I currently have are: - No ability to check for updates but let me chose and install them without it automatically doing it - No ability to change the logon image (really microsoft?) - No ability to change the titlebar color (REALLY MICROSOFT? SUCH A BASIC FEATURE IS MISSING?) - Some UI is obviously rough looking and there is still "two" separate UIs and it's noticeable. Metro and Classic. - The fact that their are two control panels and some of the options differ between the two is unacceptable. Please make one, unified master control panel. - Some metro apps have too long load times (splash screens). Like the Photos app, sometimes I have to wait 1-2 seconds for the photos app to show an image. The original Photo Viewer did not have this issue. TLDR: Windows 10 - much more desktop friendly then Windows 8.1, but overall not a huge leap over it. Improvements, but it's still the same OS - but that's not a bad thing. It's fast, responsive and things typically just work. It's clear Windows 10 will need some improvements to UI in the future however, but with Windows as a Service, I bet things will start being remedied as everyone starts getting their hands on it and reporting feedback.
