At some point they have to verify your hardware with the servers. The free upgrade is only for one year. They have to make it so people can't just manipulate their clock to get free lifetime upgrade.
What does everyone think of having upgrade/install instructions on first page on 29 Jul so we can all reference that and not post same thing over and over again, different instructions from different people, I think if we can direct everyone to first page would be better, anyone Who ever is in charge of all this let us know, thanks
Yes but if everyone is on same page, maybe there's less of a chance of errors happening, everyone posting different directions will be a mess, yes I know we will still get stupid questions, well whatever ya'll want to do.

me too, already advised some friends not to "upgrade" from a stable win 7 pro for windows 10 which has a shockingly deep cloud integration which can't be turned off to be honest and where even the pro users gotta be crashtest dummies.
I think MS will still have a hard time convincing people to upgrade even if its free. But who knows? Windows 10 is certainly a worthy successor to Windows 8. Time will tell.

Good idea but nobody would ever read page one. Might want a separate thread called "install instructions, read first" with lots of bold type...still they will ignore it but worth a try.
