With all the wailing and gnashing of teeth that is taking place in the lead-up to the release of Windows 10, it makes one wonder what all the pissants were doing on December 31, 1999 at 23:59:59.
All I have to say is that Windows 10 freaking SUCK. The Microsoft Store APPS are pandering to tablet people since it's a crappy basic APPS that doesn't work like a regular desktop programs. For instant you can freaking use CTRL+F in these stupid APPS. They are there to look nice and with very limited functions. Be prepare to download alternative program like you have been doing since XP. Can't believe they still have the crappy MS PAINT on it. That show us how much effort they have put into this terribly disappointed W10.
I've run 8 since it came out, if not before... and I've never used an app yet.... remember they are optional, you can run and should run normal programs then you don't need to complain
I'm curious to know if people who upgraded this way can sub in the generic retail key. Like maybe it's just generic mak because volume, but the hardware is what's important? Gah... I hate being busy with other stuff. So many things to test.
well we know for a fact they are only extending the free offer to Windows 7 and 8 machines that are legit, Windows 7 is a lot easier to make a pirate copy legit with slics. We also know they are not extending the offer to KMS/MAK copies, we know while in beta stages kms versions activated fine, we also know after the 29th they are only allowing non-legit copies to stay activated if they're insiders. It's all very clear... The one thing I'm not sure of is can you install a clean Windows 10 and then KMS activate it? If so.. This is probably better to do than try do the upgrade install and rely on the free activation method.
What's stopping someone who, for example, upgrades from Windows 8.1 (KMS-activated) to Windows 10 and using slmgr.vbs -ipk to insert one of the generic retail keys while retaining the permanent activation?
i guess the next test after that would be to do a clean install from the iso and see if it auto activates and says you're retail channel
That's not the point. The point his that they got freaking lazy. I mean just damn lazy. They have don't nothing to improve alot of stuff that are still from the XP era with very basic functions. Here's an idea for them. Why not just buy/paid VLC, Note++, Musicbee ect and let that be part of the Windows 10 system?
Only when they are still too drunk but when the alcohol drains off their system to a low threshold limit the first thing they would see is their machine is still activated
Windows 8.1 Pro KMS-activated with MTK. Windows 8.1 Pro upgraded to Windows 10 Pro. Windows 10 Pro receives generic ***** Volume/MAK key and is allegedly permanently activated. Generic 3V66T retail key inserted in command prompt. Key is accepted and permanent activation is retained. Spoiler --------------------------------------- Name: Windows(R), Professional edition Description: Windows(R) Operating System, RETAIL channel Family: Professional SKU ID: 4de7cb65-cdf1-4de9-8ae8-e3cce27b9f2c Application ID: 55c92734-d682-4d71-983e-d6ec3f16059f Last 5 characters of installed product key: 3V66T License Status: Activated ---------------------------------------
I am going to do a clean install later, but I just tried the exact same thing with another computer that is disconnected from the internet. Upon entering the generic retail key, the computer was deactivated, and it only activated after being reconnected to the internet. This leads me to think that a clean install would also be activated with the retail key.
