Sorry if this has been asked before. I'm currently running Windows 7 Home Premium, OEM activated. However, I do not want Win10 Home, I want Win10 Pro. Therefore, I must do the upgrade from a 7 (or 8) Pro installation of windows. My question is as follows: does MS register my machine (and whether its home/pro) before it downloads the ESD, or only once I initialize the update? My main question is: if I would want to swap my HDD and put in one that will have 7 Pro activated, will I be able to get the 10 pro upgrade, or will MS already have registered my machine as a home activation? Summary: Prior to initializing the upgrade, does windows already register hardware info, or does that only happen once upgrade starts. The effectual difference I am asking is - if while i'm sleeping my current windows 7 home downloads the 10 upgrade, am i locked into 10 home, or can i install a new hdd with 7 (or 8.1) pro and re-download the upgrade (thereby receiving win10 pro).
upgrade install pro over your windows 7 home, for the license key just use windows loader by daz to put in the certificate and key. It's been a while since i've done that, i think you need to use an upgrade key to do the upgrade, then once done change the key to the slic associated key. otherwise, just wipe the machine and install 7 pro and use daz loader to put in the cert and key. then you have a genuine win7 pro, when after that upgrade to windows 10 pro the great thing about windows 7 licensing was the slic in the bios is the same for every version of windows so its simple to activate pro on a home computer.
thanks for the quick reply i know that i will need to upgrade to pro in order to get win 10 pro i just dont want to mess around with my current setup, and i dont have a 2nd hdd handy at the moment (it is the middle of the night here) so im asking at what point does MS decide/define whether i'll be getting a win 10 home key or win 10 pro key; after i do the upgrade, or immediately upon downloading the esd
alrighty im thinking of shutting my internet connection off on this pc until this gets sorted out. i dont want to be stuck with a 10 home key...
you won't be, if you then wiped the machine and installed 7 pro, then upgraded you'd have a pro license, i've tested this already, the keys are standard keys, everyone gets the same key.
Oh. So that does answer my question. You are therefore telling me that if my PC downloads the Windows 10 upgrade while i'm running Win7Home, yet I do not install Win10, and then swap in new hdd with win 7 pro, i will be given a win 10 pro upgrade?
I've noticed that people are listing four different SKU's for Windows 10; Windows 10 Home Windows 10 Pro Windows 10 Enterprise Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB What is the difference between Enterprise and Enterprise LTSB? And how does one obtain the LTSB one? I guess it will have it's very own install / ISO besides regular Enterprise, or is it purely a license / activation thing for long-time support for some additional years after Windows 10 is end-of-life?
Oh no, 666 page. I made clean Win 7 x64 SP1 Ultimate installation, activated using SLICS 2.1 bios, key and cert, then upgraded to 10240 Pro from .esd posted in WZOR leak thread and finally made clean install. OS is activated permanently
I just tried the best feature from Windows10. The new way of resetting PC is awesome. Now it won't ask for install media and it will erase the partition and install windows with all updates already applied. You just make sure to type this on admin CMD before using the Reset this PC on Settings. Code: dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup /resetbase I love this. This makes possible to clean install in 30 minutes with the confidence that you won't need to download and install all the available updates.
Defender is disabled and my 360 security is disabled...Why isn't my 180 days being extended. shows expiry as 15/01/2016. 172 days remaining, nothing is blocking my connection?? Any idea?
does Windows 10 Pro N will be avalible tomorrow, too? And does Windows 8.1 Pro N upgrade to Windows 10 Pro N? I believe the upgrade path said, that it doesn't do that :-O!?
Yes... the question is: if my N stays ^^ ... i love my n version... Found it.. great... the N Version STAYS the N Version ... love it =)
Did anyone find a fix for the double icon for Skype?(the pinned one and the opened one; as when you click on the pinned icon, it creates another icon)
Doesn't work. I still get two icons. It leaves the taskbar but if I want to chat with someone it opens another icon. In the end, that's not a fix at all.
