I knew they wont let this go, i guess it was good decision to ignore this stupid perma activation and just stick to clean install + local account and good 'ol KMS.
mines all fine. guess something went wrong for your install. incorrect version or kms or tampering with kms on the old 10 install.
These Win 10 FAQ's won't be by our old buddy tonight I don't think, but MS hopefully and have some answers
Hey guys! just brought my Windows 8.1 Pro Key for 30 bucks, and installed it on my Win 7 installation. After i installed 8.1 i did all the updates from windows update. The one related to Win 10 upgrade wasnt there and even if i tried a lot of things it hasnt appeared. I used the iso converted from the Win 10 Pro Esd and installed on the Win 8.1 partition as upgrade. After installation and connecting to the internet Win 10 Pro was activated. Now my question is , can i use my current Win 10 PRO KEY (i viewed the key with windows expert tool and its different from the 8.1 pro key) to reinstall windows 10 at a future date , or do i have to do the upgrade procedure again ? I mean , is my Win 10 PRO key a key that i could use as a normal key for reinstalling in the future from format?
There are no Windows 10 Pro keys so far other than generic. Once you have upgraded a computer the Hardware ID of the computer activates Windows 10. You can not use Win 7 or Win 8 keys.
Don't do it until after you have upgraded first and got activated..then you can clean install all you want.
