yeah I think hard drive is set as the first boot priority I never went into BIOS before on this PC since it came with Windows 8.1 never had to thats why I wanted to get into BIOS and fix it
My F2, works fine getting into BIOS, try F-12 advanced settings at reboot, plus put disk in try, bring up this computer, then DVD ROM, setup
Also just in case if you want to access the BIOS follow my steps in the last page and you should be good
OK so I went into advanced startup, I had the disc in there, and when I clicked on boot from media I saw maybe 5 different DVD options in there I had no idea what to click
Well I feel silly I will give it another try LOL Funny thing is I didnt have this problem on the laptop, upgraded, was able to get into BIOS easily and then do the clean install
The reason you can't get into the BIOS is because of the fast boot in windows 10. You just have to keep hitting either f2 or f12 when the computer starts and your in the BIOS Only legacy boot users will see the options, fast boot users have them hidden but they are still accessible Also people who switch to ATA in the BIOS will see it.
I am trying to install win10, boot off the usb, new ssd installed.... i get a frownie face bsod with error "System Thread Exception not Handled”. Great and powerful google says its a graphic driver. How could that be if this is just the setup off the usb? I even tried f8 and low res video. Result. Same error. The laptop is an asus i5 about 2-3 years old. It has to be hardware imo
To me it's easier, but mine boots pretty quick with SSD 24 GB RAM, had 32 GB of Ram, but 2 sticks of 8 were bad, had to send back, put the 2 4GB back in, works pretty good
Yeah that is what I do, the second I see the Dell logo I press F2 and F12 basically I press everything under the sun and NOTHING happens..I will see a flash of a white screen for a second then it will go to the load screen for Windows 10..I did the advanced start up thing, the options for the different DVD Rom drives is ridiculous they are all identical I clicked the first one and it rebooted it didnt read the disc
It still boot faster with FAST boot enabled Use GPTGEN.exe to switch back to UEFI without having to reset the entire computer. Make sure you update your BIOS firmware to the latest version if you haven't already and maybe that fix issue. What your model computer and I help you hunt down the correct firmware?
I have the Dell XPS 8700 I wouldnt know how to update my BIOS firmware(God I Feel so stupid) Ive never actually even gone to BIOS on this PC before, never had a reason to, did it on the laptop since I put in windows 8.1, then put in windows 10 so I was familiar with it but never did it with the PC
Go to control panel, power options, choose what power buttons do, change settings that are currently unviable, un check fast boot, then try F2
Ok did that and I unchecked "Turn on fast startup" (Recommended) so once I do the clean install this will go back to being checked how does it work
