I had 10166 installed without key, it did its own job and activated itself, and got 10240 via WU. The keys are blocked for clean install, not for upgrades AFAIK. So just running setup.exe with 10240 to do an upgrade should be enough user input. Using enterprise?
I think it is more MS confusion. RTM will come the 29th with a few new bits I am sure. Will either be a WU patch for anyone currently using this build or possibly another upgrade run. Hell could even be a reinstall and start over. Thats the gamble with jumping the gun on these things before their time lol
i agree on this...alot stuffs played in this build and the last build no big diffrent ..the most important of microsoft is Activation ( My opinion) ....i know MSA Help alot in this situtation...more than that we need waiting and see what more come out in this days... also your MSA is unique so microsoft knows which build did you have installed and how much used ..feedback and more stuffs insider hub Microsoft knows.
So if i'm hearing this right, I can go from 8.1 SP3 > Build 10240 without any trouble. My question is, does doing so lock us out of build updates in the future? I've been reading conflicting opinions on the matter.
And what did you use for clean install? I want to make a clean install with a Windows 8 Pro key. How can I do it?
its time press the button and we see how works the upgrade from my side... there not time bomb in this one the reason:Ask The Boss MS..xD
only if you opt out of the insider program. If you are still with the insider program and logged in with your MS account, you should still get them. The "Get insider Builds" is still present under advanced settings in update and security.
Right, so presumably then the insider updates will roll till the 29th, then the release update will come out. THEN you could opt out of the insider program and still get updates.
if you opt out of insider, (this gets confusing) I believe you have to do an upgrade from a valid Win7 or Win8.1 setup. Only thing keeping insider builds coming is being insider, once you opt out it is supposed to kill activation AFAIK. BUT I see some have opt out and its still activated. So this is all confusion to me still lol you shouldn't need a key if its pro, enterprise maybe. If you do, I dont know why. that key is what gets inserted from all of the installs Ive done today, and I never entered it lol
