I agree, I have one VM and two machines dual booting and all three can be wiped out in a second when the 29th comes and that is what I will do and then start on the real installs.
Here's what I believe: Is this the final build? Yes. Will there be updates before July 29th? Of course. Exactly like Windows 8.1. We got the RTM, then a huge update went live on release date. technically making the build that was leaked pre-GA "not final", or "different from GA".
Bah, my original key doesn't work with this release on a clean install. And the PC option on the Insider website is greyed out. Guess I'll be using Toolkit
perhaps they let it sit with V6 just to get enterprises aka volume customers on board in that first year. Always consider that this handful of MTK or KMSpico users not even meet 1% all over the world. When introduction period (1 year) is over, they can change protocol to V7 or whatever
Volume license subscriber here... Not yet at vlsc... Not even at software assurance... That's unfair... Hehehe
For those who wonder if 10240 is RTM or not. Lets see - what does RTM mean again ? Release to manufacturing right ? Hmm... so what version are they currently distributing to Manufacturers/OEM's ? Oh yea, 10240! The only difference being that there won't be a truly final release of Windows 10 - unless you want to think ahead and talk about the last version of Windows 10 before it will be discontinued. So the answer is pretty much Yes and No. 10240 is not what people will be using during General Availability on and after the 29th. Simply because of Microsofts new concept for Windows. More akin to mobile operating systems, general OS updates will happen more frequently and seeminglessly without the need for a service pack or a whole new version (Windows 8.1 for example) and a lot of the system is modular - as in many features are in form of apps (like the start menu itself or cortana) so they will be easy to independently update. I think it's true what they said about not releasing any more full builds (atleast to the public/testers) - to properly test the updating sytem - because that is what this OS will heavily rely on. By the time General Availability hits - we will have the same version as everyone else - thanks to build updates on windows update. And once general availability hits it will still continue. Hence why it will be a rolling release. I assume before the 29th windows 7/8/8.1 user will get a new update that will provide a Update Advisor - letting you know if your hardware is a good match for the current build of Windows 10 while they try and get it to flawlessly work on more and more systems. Which is also the reason they will release the retail version at a later date - when it reached a reasonable general compatibility for most system. You could of course call whatever version that will be RTM - but that is not really what RTM means is it ? 10240 is as RTM as windows 10 will ever get. But that doesn't mean its the best time to upgrade - that completely depends on your hardware, your compatibility needs and if the OS already fulfills all your other needs. Which is something that will evolve over time. Which i think is one of the most important steps Windows has ever taken.
I'm awaiting this too. From testing over the past few months, it's safe to say that we would have no problem upgrading all 500+ of our systems to Windows 10. Being a university, we have stalled behind with OS updates. Even still there are people here who are still tell me that we need to wait for Windows 10 "SP1" before deploying. I'm sick of that excuse in this day an age!
My thinking too, they may call it 240.16388 instead of 16384 or whatever this is but it will be the exact same code with updates. The fact that this never expires and can be upgraded and then clean installed without even using an insiders account tells me GA will be no different.
I see today on windows 10 10240 MS realese all language pack my question is did someone knows if i can integrade the language pack who install on windows 10 10240 to integerade on en-us iso to make upgrade my windows 7 pro gr? thanks!
@lob011 - We've got it. You don't think it's RTM. You aren't installing it. You think it may all go tits up on 29th. You don't need to keep re-enforcing your opinion. But let ppl have their fun man, some of us have drive images safely backed up etc. IMO this is exactly like Win 8.xx - RTM then update rollups/ISO's at General Availability release. First post from The Edge btw. (Still some way to go as a fully fledged browser IMO).
