I'm a little confused weather to install it or not. Since I'm in a place where internet is scarce, is it really good time to download the esd, decrypt into .iso and burn it on a blank DVD to clean install every computer at home and work? Is this build 10240 really a final one or should I wait till 29th July for things to get more clear? Please advice. Thanks!
I'm waiting like you but I still think this is not a test build, if it was it wouldn't activate as it does for non-insiders and it would expire like all other test builds do.
IN your case with scarce internet...I would wait...however if you only mean slow download but not data capped then go for it. Hope that make sense for you.
Please someone paste the EXACT key i need to use in order to activate pro 10240 Pro. NOT soemthign that will turn them to enterprise!!!!
Yes I downloaded it, put it over 10166, but I personally am playing it safe, MS says 29 Jul, so I am not telling anyone to upgrade and clean install till that date, I just don't think MS is done yet, I don't mind insiders upgrading build like I did, but when it comes to Win 7, 8, 8.1, I'll stay on sidelines
I get that some people want to wait..and I get that some want to install it. There is nothing wrong with either choice as it is your system. Just gonna say I am in the second camp as previous Chinese leaks showed with me working on making it in English and installing. But seriously, I really did not care if it activated, had a time bomb or whatnot, as I would be doing and everyone should a CLEAN INSTALL when MS releases the Win 10 "final" ISO on or around July 29th. So people please do not be mean to the people in the other camp then you are. /edit for peace of mind with all the changes to the upgrade terms, I have both clean ISO build 10162 imaged, and have my 8.1 ISO on a USB stick, to make sure I can handle whatever is thrown at us.
I have updated all three of my installs, I have set my bios clock ahead 5 years, I have disconnected my insiders msa..everything I could think of to test it. What I haven't done is wipe out my everyday installs of 8.1 and complete switch over to 10 yet..not that I don't trust this because I certainly do but on two of my dual boot installs I had some driver issues when I first installed it and I'm thinking if I wait until the 29th there will probably be more reliable drivers available..that is the only reason I am waiting.
My believe (take with salt) is that this 240 build represents RTM for insiders simply to cut down heavy bandwidth load on July 29th. MS probably deploys insider patches on 29th like small updates to finalize RTM build number and a few missing updates prior to GA. Simply look at the missing watermark and your activation which seems to be permanent on the retail channel though. I might be wrong but this scenario makes some sense to me
If you are on 10240 and don't have the KB installed yet, you could try WU TOOL from my sig to parse the links from WULog .
Yes you have to wait unless you buy retail key to upgrade your 8.1 Core to Pro, then you could get Win 10 Pro
