How does this work if i want to upgrade my windows 8.1 key to windows 10? I signed up for the insiders builds when windows 10 1st build come out, do i have to install windows 8.1 then upgrade to windows 10? all the computers i have windows 10 running on do i need to install windows 8.1 back on them then upgrade to windows 10, i find this system crap should just be the old key upgrade like windows 8.1 was.
you probably want to edit that, people get banned for posting homebrew isos. Everyone can make their own, no need posting this.
hello, I have a few questions about upgrade process: I have a laptop which have windows 8 core single language version upgraded to 8.1 coresinglelanguage and on another partition i have insider preview upgraded to 10240. other than these i can install following too: * any windows 7 version because my bios also have both slic 2.1 and msdm table * windows 7 pro activated with my university kms * windows 8.1 pro activated with my university kms which option will be good to upgrade to win 10 pro, i will prepare my laptop according to your replies. thank you sorry for bad english.
So ... My win 8.1 is legit, Pro version I downloaded enterprise version here, made an iso out of it, upgrade from my current 8.1, and ... it didnt get activated :\ Where did I go wrong? Or was it because mine is pro not compatible with enterprise?
There has been no indication that kms activation can be used to upgrade to 10 and have it activate. If you want to test that, you're more than welcome to.
Apologies If this has already been asked before..but I have Windows 8.1 retail keys for both my Desktop and Laptop, should I clean install Windows 8.1 on both of them and then activating them using my keys and then install Windows 10 build 1024 (built ISO from en-gb esd file) over the top of my activated Windows 8.1 activation? Will I remain activated? (Im currently running Windows 10 build 1024 on both of them - upgraded using WU on the previous Windows 10 build) Thanks in advance
Popular opinion at the moment is that a unique hardware ID is stored on MS servers (after upgrade to 10240). Thereafter any install of 10240 to that hardware auto activates as soon as it connects. Hence upgrade prior to clean install is a must. I'm stating popular opinion a lot. But yes, popular opinion would seem to say yes, with updates at General Availability on 29th. Maybe new ISO's who knows.
Exactly. You cannot upgrade pro to enterprise and keep activated. Win10 Ent < Win8.x Ent or Win7 Ent Win10 Pro < Win8.x Pro or Win7 Pro/Ult Win10 Home < Win8.x (Core) or Win7 Home (think both basic and premium) Win10 Home Single Lang < Win8.x (Core) Single Language I could be a little mistaken, but that's the basics of upgrade paths.
Have anyone got successfully upgraded from Windows 7 Slp activated? I tried to upgrade using iso and received error Windows failed to install.
On a PC with UEFI with 10166 could not get 10240 on WU. I made an update using an ISO of 10240 PRO grabbed from a posted link. Of course the updated version kept the activation. Then I made a clean installation of 10240 from the same ISO. Did not provide Product key at the beginning and at the and. Login with MSA. and Windows were activated. So even with offline update it got activated on a clean install.
Well s**t. Should ve digged deeper before committing. Anyway for me to salvage this save for a clean install win 8.1, active, THEN upgrade to 10 pro?
i get error. none rsa keys are working. and esd file is unprotected and in same folder. running legal win 8.1 pro eng. anyone know why i cant decrypt and make the iso to burn ?
