My understanding that they do that to get their hardware-id activated. They can then do a clean install of the new build without any loaders as Microsoft already considers their hardware-id activated. I may be wrong though, I use legit DreamSpark keys for all my computers.

However you are understanding KMS correctly? By default your machine will try and renew it's activation every seven days, and will expire after 180 days if it wasn't able to contact the specified KMS host to renew.

According to Daz HWID is same for both ... simply install in MBR and upgrade, if successful, swith to GPT on reboot and install 10 :coo2:.

The strange thing is I've had three new PC's since I got the Dell, 2x HP's and an Acer. All have died, which is why the Dell keeps getting dragged back down from the attic, to get another OS.

 

Any H/W ID is going to based on the hardware in the PC, not what partition table/type you use.

 

don't misunderstand me, Dell is kind of higher quality and might outperform toys like Acer and HPs but there is no doubt that it is gett'n into ages where is it not recommended to run it as the daily driver

 

Why is everyone having trouble with activation? I installed 10 Enterprise x64 and activated with Microsoft Toolkit 2.5.3 just like I always did with 7, 8 and 8.1. Activated no problem.

enjoy your activation as long as MS keeps V6 protocol alive. Any day after they've changed it up to 7, your activation must be renewed as usual

 

I know I pay extra but I have been using Dell XPS for years, they last and last.

 

@GabeAul No way to change login wallpaper currently, but there is a suggestion on that in the Feedback app that you can upvote.

Glad we found way to change it because hero wallpaper is not good
