Hi I recently installed LTSC 2019 on my Acer Laptop. Everything is fine except for one thing. I can't update to the latest version of Nvidia Graphics driver (Geforce 820m). I'm stuck with the default version 388 that got installed through windows update. The latest version on Nvidia's site is 416. Whenever I try to install the driver I get the "NVIDIA graphics driver is not compatible with this version of Windows" error. Any solution?\

    --------

Update: I tried installing version 399.07 for notebooks and get the same error "NVIDIA graphics driver is not compatible with this version of Windows, Can't find compatible NVIDIA hardware"

Sorry, but that is seriously (by now) junk hardware. The fact that it works & might do what you want, does not change this fact.
When I had it, there was no problem running Server 2012 R2 (what one would expect to run on this machine anyway...)

    @sebus

Clearly your message is based on second/third hand infos. That's a mistake that a skilled and well known user should never do.

The N54L (never owned a n 40L) is still a great machine today, perhaps batter than the current gen 10 (at least the dual core one).

It still works great as HTPC, file server and as virtual machine host.

One of the best machines ever sold. Rock solid, relatively powerfull and absolutely reliable.

Perhaps Server 2012R2 is actually WAY slower than server 2016 and also server 2019. So, saying to use it over W10 2016 is just pointless.

ATM 2019 is not suggested if you use the microserver as a multimedia platform, unless you add a current VGA because ...

    hxxps://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4464619/windows-10-update-history

Other than that it works perfectly on 1809, possibly better than it did on W7/WHS/2008R2

Just install the driver with internet connection disabled and that should work. That's working for me at least.

I've experienced this. Thing is Windows Update installed a botched Nvidia driver on your PC. Do this to fix it...
    1) Disconnect internet on that PC (important since when u do next steps Windows Update may reinstall the botched driver)
    2) Uninstall and delete the Nvidia driver from device manager.
    3) Reboot and install the Nvidia's latest driver
    4) Re-connect internet.

    All should be fine.

    Interesting thread!

I know this had been touched on, but I wonder if anyone could give me their opinion about whether LTSC would be valuable to me. I don't use windows 10 much, I've been hanging on to Win 7 for dear life. I'm building a new PC now, though and was thinking of trying Win 10 Enterprise. I'm mainly concerned about telemetry and spying by MS. Is it easier to turn these types of things off in LTSC rather than normal Enterprise?
I'm not really that vexed about feature updates every 6 months, or the existence of Edge or the Store. Since I haven't used Win 10 much I don't really have a feel for whether gratuitous stuff in the start menu will be annoying.
The disadvantages of LTSC seem to be potential future driver issues, and missing out on interesting features. If the version sends less information to MS, however, I think that would be a reasonable trade-off; but I don't know how different this is in LTSC vs normal Enterprise.

    Any thoughts?

I have an older desktop with an old AMD vid card, but the command below should work for you too.

Open an Administrative Comand Prompt and paste in the following command:

    bcdedit.exe -set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS

Then try to install your drivers.

Does not change the fact that it is junk! You might like junk, I like recycling junk by WEEE (or on ebay)

But if you must, then Server 2012 R2 is definitely an OS of choice for this hardware (and that is first hand)

Did a clean install of Windows 10 LTSC, showing Version 1809 (OS Build 17763.134). On windows update, kb4467708 failed once and is now showing "Requires a restart to finish installing", no change after multiple restarts. Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks

Ok I tried to be politically correct on my previous message, but clearly you have no idea about you're talking about.

Whatever i don't mind to reply further on this, keep your idea and live happy. People who really tested the HW and various OSes knows the actual value of that small marvel, and possibly will use it for another 5 years since now.

    Thanks, I appreciate the advice!
Why do people in MDL seem to love LTSC so much, then? If you're supporting a bunch of other people's systems, then not having it upgrade automatically seems like it'd be a pretty huge deal. If its for your own PC and you're already a bit of a hacker, this doesn't seem like it'd be that significant. Or are the metro apps really that irritating? Is there a list of what's kept out of LTSC somewhere?

I seemed to have trouble creating the Boot USB in Rufus. Maybe I have the wrong ISO downloaded or am creating the incorrect type of boot disk in Rufus.

I have an intel nuc d54250wyk.

Any help with what type of boot disk? MBR or GBT etc? Format type (fat 32 etc?)

The nuc doesn’t seem to boot to the USB.

I know the USB should be okay, as I just tried it with the proper windows media creation tool and it worked fine.

Also a link to a working iso if possible?

    Thanks

If you format your USB fat32, mount the ISO, and copy over all the files, it should boot just fine.

You're the one who can't read. I'll ask again, where did I said that I *want* to install *all* the store apps?

Are you sure? I thought most motherboards look for an MBR on the usb stick to see if its bootable. I think there's a command to copy the mbr from windows to the usb stick, or you can:
open a command prompt and run "diskpart"
    "list disk"
"select disk 7" (put in the right number; do this carefully, don't wipe off your harddrive)
    "clean"
    "create partition primary"
    "select partition 1"
    "active"
"format fs=fat32 quick" or "format fs=ntfs quick"
"assign" (to give it a letter, but I don't think you really need to do this)
    "exit"
then you can copy stuff onto the drive

    edit:
under "list disk" it will show if the drive is gpt or not
after you select the disk, you can "convert gpt" or "convert mbr" to try the other system
again, this will probably wipe the data, so make sure you select your usb drive

is there a preferred method to type code into these posts, by the way? Using quotes looks ugly :)
