VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION: As some of you may have heard, the Home and Pro 1809 updates have a CRITICAL bug where it deletes contents of the Documents and Pictures folders for some users. Has anyone experienced this upgrading LTSB 2016 --> LTSC 2018?
Yes to both. Putting the ISO and the script in root of C: threw the same error message. Also, that is not what is at line 452. That's at line 451. Commenting out line 452 gets past the first error message, but then I get this error message: Code: Unable to attain required image data content.
I noticed the same wonky behavior trying to set/change a few 'opens with:' things too. Like a *.PDF with Sumatra. I just right clicked a PDF file, and chose the "open with..." option and pointed that to Sumatra, and tick the box to always use it. May or may not have been related to another 'problem' I had where notifications were not showing up, like "safe to remove usb flash drive". The fix for that (was not a problem in LTSB 2016) was to go to privacy settings > Background Apps and enable "Let apps run in the background"...but still turning off every app listed there. Odd, but it's friggin Windows. Either it was the background app thing or it just fixed itself somehow, as did my right side desktop icons that kept moving to the center of the screen each reboot as if it had been set to 800x600 resolution then back to 1920x1080 or something. Eventually they fixed them selves and stayed put before I got around to the part of my 'install check list' where I would trouble shoot it. ...and then there was the pinned to start tile I tried to move and it jumped into a rectangle box/folder(?) with another one so there were two in a box and I could not get them out or remove them...WTflyingF?!?! I just kept tinkering with it and dragging it around until it finally went back to normal.
MS has stopped doing this a long time back.As long as you are using a "proper activation tool"(aka the ones supported here) there is no problem regarding updates.
Going back to LTSB 2016. This is, to say the least, an unpolished Windows version with very unpredictable behavior and a lot of bugs. Big disappointment, long awaited product turned out bad.
whats not working for you? i don't see much improvements over ltsb 2016 (maybe 2-3) but for me ltsc 2019 is still running stable and so far without any bugs. - if you don't need a higher windows versions for certain programs or apps, like for example forza 4. - don't need the dark theme for the explorer - don't care about the "minor" tweaks like for example gpu stats in the task manager then there is no reason for you to upgrade from ltsb 2016. some of my friends will just stay on ltsb 2016, why change a running system if you don't have to. i want to play forza 4 and i like the dark theme, so i moved from ltsb 2016 to ltsc 2019. for me 2019 runs just as good as 2016, so either version you choose it will be better then grabbing a normal windows version.
Does your script work only on US English .iso images? When i tried it on Polish x64 .iso it has mistakenly detected it as 32bit, i removed the line from script manually that is checking for x64 to bypass this, the script worked, but then .iso was unable to boot on VM.
Still has Win Se7en Control Panel, might as well be another version of Se7en with another fancy skin, but since i have a 32 core processer with 128gb ram, I jus have to use windows 10, and you can NEVER use jus Home or Pro..........
A lot of simple things are not polished. Have you noticed that Windows explorer does not have a border in certain cases? If you go to "This PC" there's no border, if you go to control panel - there is a border. Nvidia drivers random download. First time it downloads 399.xx version, next time 388.xx... Inconsistent behavior and weird behavior while working. It waits on random command, like cut and paste. While writing in the browser, like this reply I am writing, it offers auto-correct options but it does not auto-correct the errors. A lot of things... Bad windows
Microsoft has always done the same (and always will). RTM releases are launched with a huge number of known bugs, and they will slowly fix them during the first few months (sometimes almost a year) This has always been the case, and that's the reason many people in the past said that you had to "wait for the Service Pack" back in the days when Microsoft did Service Packs... If you want stability and a somewhat polished product, then DON'T install anything from Microsoft just when it launches! You must wait if you want stability. It's an established Law of Nature
I see people get Forza Horizon 4 DEMO working on LTSC 2019, but does actual full game work on it? If I remember correctly, you could not play Forza Horizon 3 on LTSB 2016 even with added Store.
