if you dig a bit deeper "machines having weird issues in games" also applies of any version of Windows 10! regarding LTSB 2016 what are the problematic "issues"? would be helpful to elaborate on the exact nature of "issues" being reported instead of vague "weird" statements.
To name a few: -periodic fps drops in games, specially multiplayer ones (even older such as CS:GO, DOTA, TITANFALL, BATTLEFIELD, GTAV) -v-sync / g-sync not being smooth, but probably caused by above. still, there are sometimes micro-stutters that are not reflected on the fps overlay -3d bluray choppy playback -wireless display working flunky -bt headset working intermittently -onboard audio acting funky with independent outputs -xbox controller disconnecting / not being recognized -keyboard aura lights locking up, special buttons not responding, touchpad not available (rarely) -usb 3.0 external hdd losing performance over time / freezing Yet it magically works fine in non-ltsb versions. Nothing fancy, middle-range gaming PCs/notebooks from the likes of Asus/Acer/Dell/Lenovo(awful brand), mostly Skylake and Kaby Lake. Older ones do pass with flying colors, even with the same peripherals and displays connected! One can spot a trend there, so I'm blaming drivers and bios first (there is no oversight on how manufacturers are implementing stuff). I also think game makers are assuming too much about how the OS works (more relevant now than ever with the cpu vulnerabilities patches) I've seen counter-examples working flawless. And I would blame it on the human factor, but me, my friends, and complete strangers can't possibly break the same stuff independently of each other!
a simple Google search with your list of symptoms with Windows 10 (non LTSB) will show these are common among all SKU's not just LTSB. mostly driver related or game specific bug depending on hardware combination, settings, configuration, BIOS, 3rd party software conflicts, missing extra libraries for gaming etc... "magically works fine" in dual or fresh installation? you and your friends play the same games I presume.
Most of those problems are present in every Windows 10 SKU, not just in LTSB 1607. Microsoft has removed some of older DirectX libs in Windows 10 causing many old games to break, fortunately you can find custom patches and fixes for most of those old games if you Google Search for them, there are fixed binaries, wrappers like dgVoodoo and so on. Also the new "pseudo-full screen" mode aka. "borderless windowed" is being an issue, causing problems with mouse input in few old games for example.
hmm definitely for me this "history" of Windows as service (WAAS) does not work in the same way as Windows 8.1 I really must believe that all Windows 10 users will always be whether or not they will ALWAYS be beta users
Windows 8.1 driver support may be patchy, AMD have stopped issuing drivers for 8.1, dont know about intel or other hardware manufacturers. Mind you if the older drivers work then go for it.
^^ NO problem dude, this is very simple when I'm using Windows 8.1 OS only need make use of latest Windows 7 and works like charm
Normally when i have to use a driver from an older windows on a newer windows i just point to the .inf and when it's compatible, it will install the driver.
The exception being Windows 7 AMD GPU drivers on Windows 8.0, which will BSOD each time with a Watchdog error, but that's a topic for another thread
Tomorrow i get some new stuff to play with, Gigabyte H310 Mobo, i3-8100 with 8GB ddr4 ram + samsung 960 evo 250GB M2. ssd (1.5G Wr/3.2G R) I can play 1 month with it before it has to go to my inlaws
Hi I've been looking through stickied threads to find the best Win10 build for a workstation. I'm looking for no features like Cortana, games etc. and want just core windows. Is 2016 LTSB the best option right now? Thanks for any help
