And as far as development/servicing is concerned, the build designated RTM is the code base on which any further updates will be based on. This is the one build that is going to receive servicing support. So, whatever updates they release at the time of GA will apply to this very build. Whatever update they release in the future will apply to this very build, not for any other builds on that branch. The single fully supported base release for RS1 is this one, and that's what differentiates the RTM build from others. Exactly. Those are updates, not "new builds". They're not released as part of a "rolling release". The extensive changes for feature upgrades are happening on entirely different development branches. And when they're done we'll see see another single RTM build for that feature upgrade, simple as that. And so it comes down to one question with regard to RTM: Will I be able to install this build and receive those updates, or will I have to do another full build upgrade first because I'm not running the RTM build? (this is a rhetorical question)
Indeed. And MS tests the ability for future upgrades. I remember the Insider program spokesperson saying that a build was not released because it failed the upgradeable test.
Well, about the taskbar bug, the nvidia team has been able to reproduce the bug, however, only when they used the same monitor i use (DELL U2414H), this is what they said to me: "We were able to reproduce this issue however for some reason it only occurs when the Dell U2414H is used. QA is passing on the system to our dev team to investigate."
Wow MS made some dramatic improvements to the TCP stack in this build with one of them to improve latency=better gaming...Cool!
I believe that when Anniversary Update comes out, your problem will be solved, if you clean install, do your tweaks one at a time to find out which tweak is causing problem, do not stop looking after you find the first one, the're may be more tweaks that cause it too. I think Nvidia told you what you wanted to hear, what's the likelihood of the millions of computers in the world you are only one with that monitor with that problem, if others were having problems, it would be in google. I think they are BS-ing you knowing AU is almost here.
Well, after all the recent buzz...guess I was wrong. 14393 is RTM That means that: It was sent to OEMs to preinstall on new devices It was pushed for Insider in Fast Ring, first, and shortly after on Slow Ring. I guess it will shortly end up on "Release Preview Ring" (for example: for phones), and finally on Production/Release starting from August 2 14393.0 is RTM, but it will not be exactly the same as GA version on August 2. This one will be 14393.0 + Day 1 cumulative patches that will bring it to 14393.x (example: 14393.3) Who install this now as a direct upgrade from official (no-insider) 10586.x , or Clean Install it from scratch, it will be ready to go for Day 1 (August 2nd) patches, and beyond. It will remain on official path, and No-Insider. This time they finished early (see Surface drivers fix already released)?
Ok, but 14393.0 will be not enough like 10586.0 and then you can download cumulative update ? What the advantage of download RTM+update in the same esd ?
Build 14393 plus release patch will be identical to what making a build with the same code would be if they did that. The only difference is the build number. The number of files changed between each build (apart from versioning) isn't that large, especially the more recent builds. It has been suggested that for the Redstone 2 builds, maybe not right away but at some stage, that insiders will get cumulative updates instead of new builds all the time. This way we can get say, a cumulative update each week and a full build every couple of months etc, rather than getting a full build every time for small changes. It would get a bit much installing a new build every week, or twice a week for a year!
I can take that. Better than downloading 3GB every couple of days. Not everyone in the World has the speed and unlimited plan!
Why should they divert from known working path and make it more complicated for themselves, if they find no showstopper 14393.0 is the released build. ZDP and all following updates will increase build number. But we will know for sure on August 2nd. They can release Builds with updates on MSDN like they do now.
Yeah, it would be good! Having builds as an update rather than a refresh is preferable. A lot less junk files, quicker, and you wouldn't have to readjust some setting to your liking that get reset. There would still be proper builds, but they would only be occasional.
You may have only very minor problems installing 14393.0 now or buying a brand new PC on August 2nd (that WILL have 14393.0 preinstalled, since this build IS RTM) without installing the first Day 1 cumulative patches. The only advantages of official update on August 2nd compared to RTM is that on GA -> "RTM+Patches" will flow down together.
I've used a USB stick on 2 and on another 2 I just mounted the ISO and upgraded using the setup.exe file. No problems with any of the upgrades so far.
