Well, his windows are in english (en-us), since ever, but his locale is listed as el-gr, so what should he download?
Also, on the forementioned registry path, there is a key named default that has 0409 as value. Do I change this too?

    ---edit
What if the "InstalledLanguage" key refers to the language that was added after the installation?
Because he does use a greek keyboard layout to... write stuff in greek.

As usual Entousiast is always scared by a couple of bytes changed in the registry and to learn something different than pasting some links.:spoton:

What counts is the GUI. Is it in english US or is it in greek?

The ISO is en-US or what?

    Writing language is not important

The gui is in US english (no other english variant is installed on the system) and the iso is en-us.
That is why I wonder how its locale is mentioned as el-gr!

Well set it to 409 as well, just in case, but what matters is the InstallLanguage. Reboot and start the in place upgrade again.

    It should work.

I am taking a deep breath and starting it in a couple of minutes.

Imagine that a few hours earlier I wanted to set up a roundcube + lighttpd + sqlite configuration on my linux system. I read the howto, I did not understand everything and I was like "this will take a lot of time, maybe I should do something easier" and I started the in place upgrade :D

    ---edit
It worked! It just started the procedure (the blue screen with the progress percentage below).
Fingers crossed until tomorrow that I will check it again.

If you want really relax, just install sendmail, possibly on a 15 years old distro, possibly integrating it with complex routing rules, antispam filters, fax to mail integration, and alike... :p

Well... it failed. It rebooted twice during the in place upgrade and it got 2 bsods, one after each reboot, with different error codes each time, so it reverted the changes and it booted just like before.
The whole procedure took like 30-40 minutes, which is like 5 times the time it took to install windows the first time (5-7 minutes with all the nagging screens).

The other weird thing is that systeminfo lists August 8th 2020 as the install date of the os, but it was installed on autumn of 2019. There is a slight chance I am wrong on that and it is autumn of 2018, but it is definitely not anytime in 2020.
Long story short, I do not want to spam the topic anymore with this, so I asked the owner to write a small "summary" of all its issues and I will post it as a new thread.

    Uninstall any 3rd

OK, no thread hijack, but be sure you have uninstalled any 3rd party AV/antimalware before trying the upgrade.
