I am just an average user. For me the bugs are which render the system unusable, unwarranted cpu/disk usage spikes, or any other nasty bugs like file deletion, security, privacy issues etc.

I hope defrag/optimize bug is not such a big issue.

besides, this will be resolved soon in subsequent cumulative updates.

Please, correct me if I am mistaken

If you have a SSD in your system, then it's a very big issue!
Forgetting the state after each reboot means pointless clearing of already zeroed pages, instead of doing it very conservatively (weekly, if needed) to not drastically shorten the drive's life.
Bug effectively turns smart SSDs into first-era, non-TRIM trash.

What? I don't think re-trim degrades the NAND flash. If the controller is smart enough, it won't do anything (won't erase cells which were already erased before for whatever reason). Those LBAs you redundantly re-trim should already point to 'nothing' internally. You trim LBAs, not the flash directly.

Yes, I was connected to the internet. Classic Paint works well. Didn't notice any visual difference in the IE toolbar as far as I can recollect.

I don't have large amount of data. Single partition and only about 250 gigs of data, and I don't move my data from one location to another. Do I still need to defrag my HDD. What if I disable Windows defrag until the bug is resolved?.

190x does not have the Defrag bug, that's exclusive to 2004. AFAIK, the dev version (FAST ring) already has it fixed as well.

Usually, SSD brands come with an exclusive utility that can replace the Windows Trim feature.

I have the defrag bug too. But I am assuming this could be a reporting error in the defrag program and not necessarily the service itself. Needs to be further looked into.

It's likely that the bug will be corrected in the future updates. I am just curious as to why not disable the defrag temporarily? would that be a problem?

I am stunned, that people still rely on unreliable Windows apps/tasks, this bug is merely a frosting on top. But I guess, that some will trust in god, I mean in MS, no matter what.

Whats wrong with the defrag app when the bug is fixed? Whats the alternative?
Or was that just the usual MS bashing against MS apps?
