The only good defender related notifications (for people who didn't use MSMG at the right time) are the ones in bold Code: @echo off cd /d "%~dp0" echo Uninstalling Windows-Defender... CLS install_wim_tweak.exe /o /l install_wim_tweak.exe /o /c Windows-Defender /r install_wim_tweak.exe /h /o /l echo Windows-Defender should be uninstalled. Please reboot Windows. pause
What else do you recommend if you hate Win defender (or windows et al, by judging from some posts in here)
Do not hate defender I just find it not usefull with al the false positives and the updates trough WU is for me an pain in the butt. I'm using malwarebytes BTW
Ah okay. I just having windows defender with the "basic" settings, to.. no "send this to the cloud for SCIENCE" stuff or something like this, but also running other prevention tools and yep, malwarebytes is one of these. btw, can defender be completely disabled or even removed without doing it with the MSMG toolkit? Or can I just "disable" it, if I'm tired of it. (edit: Sorry for little bit OT)
Why did MS decide to make Full OS Re-install updates for Windows 10? In Windows 7 and 8.1, updates are almost always incremental... I assume its best to format system drive and re-install OS every time a large update (like upcoming Anniversary update) comes out?
Why? And anyway what has to do the difference from a full in place upgrade v.s. the incremental updates with the supposed need to clean install? MS just switched to a linux like behavior. Security and minor updates are provided as standalone packages, the major upgrades are provided as whole images. About clean updates (which is a different, unrelated matter) to have a fully working OS, that was something worth in the W9x days, something needed (rarely) in W2k/XP era, but something that is more a waste of time rather than beneficial since the Vista release.
Basically you can live w/o any AV if you have sane habits. Starting to avoid any flock aimed browser (explorer, chrome and even FF). But if you want a decent AV you should look at NOT32 which is still the best compromise between lightness, speed, and effectiveness. If you want a good FREE AV Avira is definitely the best among the free ones (often it fights to be the best AV overall)
