I don't usually set a PIN whenever I am doing new installation or upgrading previous build. I did it once and I thought it wasn't safe enough for my computer despite being very secure for MSN account. However, people have been complaining of encountering error during the PIN setup process and I think Microsoft needs to look into it properly.
Simply use 'Search' in File Explorer to do that. 1) Open File Explorer 2) Go to Local Drive C 3) Type Install.esd into Search (at the top-right hand corner of your File Explorer) 4) Right-click on Install.esd and select 'Open file location'.
How did you upgrade/install 14942? After upgrade you have to enable windows to show hidden folders and it will be in c:\$WINDOWS.~BT\sources\ and if you just upgraded you can use the esd-viewer tool to generate the downloadlink for the original WU esd file.
Your post makes me glad I'm only using Defender... I never could get the flight upgrade to download from Microsoft, so that's why I went the iso route this time. I always back up my installations when they are working correctly, because I've got > 200 games and applications installed... (So I'm not much into clean installs) It's not such a chore because all I have on c:\ is Windows, drivers & utilities. So far 14942 is working well with the many programs I've run so far. Seems very solid...
It is clearly no longer in your system. Perhaps, it's removed from your computer after upgrade. I experienced that once during Insider upgrade in the past.
I reinstalled build 14942 again by resetting to an Image with Version 1607 and upgrading from there. Seems to be usable now. And I realized that now Adgurad seems to work fine but there are still ads in all browsers I tested (Edge, Fx, Chrome). And there are still several problems with my internet connection. BUT it is all Adguard's fault. Disabling it fixes all connectivity problems on my system. Using the Adblock Extension for Edge until this gets fixed. Edit: Anyone here with an Precision Touchpad? How is the scrolling behavior for you? Dona mentioned in her post, that they changed things under the hood for 'touch' scrolling. For me there's a lot of unwanted jumps while scrolling. Definitely worse than before. Edit2: I found three (German) entrys in the Feedback Hub related to the Scrolling issue. I am not alone.
Hi, When I try to set up this build with a clean install, it stucks in One moment and it never continues! What can I do? Thanks
I don't know where it sticks for you, but I have had both with upgrade, and clean install, when after I enter my user information the next window should be getting things ready, blah, blah, blah, but instead it is a black screen with an active cursor. This can be fixed by turning off the computer with the power button, and on restart pressing F8, and enter LOW RESOLUTION MODE. Windows will then finish the installation normally.
Regarding the problem with Adguard, that seems to be under Investigation. I'd really like to share the URL in the Adguard Forum but as someone who was just reading here I am not worth posting links here.
14942 - What Issues? Did a crossgrade from 14393 Pro to 14942 Home (my error - downloaded wrong ESD); result, had to reinstall already installed apps all over again - which worked without issue. Will try another crossgrade (Home->Pro) later today. New ISO is ready - simply a matter of when. The crossgrade worked without issues - reinstalling of software (where needed) has been without issues.
