Ya I don't understand it either, maybe different installs? Mine was done using Windows update from b19471. below is my "This PC" screenshots after b14986 update & disk cleanup. Next is after CU before disk cleanup Next after CU & disk cleanup Spoiler
I goofed-up my attachments, it is fixed now. I updated using Windows update from b14971, something may be goofed-up on the test rig as when running the disk cleanup after the build update it showed 25GB of space I'm recovering... a bit ridiculous IMO .
I just screwed up. I am up and running on 14971, while in the background Windows Update downloaded 14986 and auto restarted my PC and again 14986 setup FAILED to install and rolled back to 14971. So I put Insider Downloads thru Windows Update in Time-Out. I will be staying on 14971 till MSFT figures out what is broken in 14986 setup and fixes it.
Does this build offer anything exciting for someone who doesn't use MS services? Namely, any performance improvements?
Probably all sorts of things that they don't include in the release notes as those are more about feature highlights. I wouldn't be able to say anything specifically though but it should include support for shader model 6.0 for DirectX 12 for one thing albeit it's not like anything is currently using that, also this version of Windows 10 is reducing the amount of grouped together tasks/services which should help with stability but have also had various compatibility problems with certain types of software (Pretty sure some anti-virus software is still problematic.) although on the downside it does also increase RAM usage a bit. (Also going to show many more active processes in the task manager now.) Besides that there's probably many other code changes to most parts of the OS, doubt Microsoft will ever release a complete changelog though for those interested in the more in-depth or technical changes for these new Windows 10 builds. (This should be the second out of four planned "RedStone" updates too if I remember it right.)
Guys/Gals, I'm having difficulty with activating this build. I should note that I am running this build within a Hyper-V virtual machine and it is running fabulously, with the exception of activation. Details: Installed as VM within Hyper-V using 64-bit 14986 ISO (Pro) Installed and logged in within my Microsoft Account that is in the Insider program (always worked previously) Within Settings app, the Insider Program page shows me correctly within Insider program (choice between Slow and Fast) However, activation has been failing for several days now stating no digital licence I know that I could certainly use some sort of KMS tool to force activation, but I would rather activate legitimately in this case for testing purposes. Does anyone know what I can do to help activate this build? Would I need to manually enter some sort of product key within Settings app? (Although I know that was not required with previous Insider builds for me in the past). I should mention also that I do own a licence for Pro that I had purchased and it is tied to my hardware ID and that activates automatically with my regular Anniversary Update installation. But I assume that within a Hyper-V virtual machine that there would likely be a different hardware ID in this case. So I don't know if that is what might be causing conflict here or not. I'm just trying to activate this 14986 Pro build as Insider. Thank you for your time. I hope that everyone is enjoying their holiday season.
Is there a powershell command to Uninstall the new Windows Defender app in B14986 I tried this one but it seems it doesn't work Code: powershell.exe -command "Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.windows.SecHealthUI_cw5n1h2txyewy | Remove-AppxPackage" I think that's because it's not a normal app but a system app just like Edge what are your comments on this !!
adguard, I found it is Ok with .wim. And it is OK to have the referencing file with *. It is simply like swm.
