FYI - I have a Radeon VII and Windows update installs a driver dated 4-1-2020 version 27.20.1002.34, which seems to be a newer driver than 20.2.2 based on the Windows Store #
Check your software for AMD...I know in the picture I uploaded it show I can download and install the 20.4.1 driver, which I have done more then once. Windows will always install the older version of the driver and software. so I just leave it.
Not for me it doesn't. I have never had MS try to install an older driver. All my settings I leave default.
Mine doesn't have the "driver and software" on the homepage and it has a "sidebar (symbol)" button in place of the "close" button you have. My Radeon software is from Windows Update.
Can you upload this driver somewhere? For some reason, latest insider preview builds don't download drivers through WU :|
I have downloaded the driver from AMD and installed it...But I guess people don't know how to read. And again I just tried it again last night with a fresh install of the driver right from AMD. This is what happen. Install 20.4.1 with Additional Options open Factory Reset checked.....Install with restart...Everything normal...Left system on over night like normal (system on 24/7) This morning when I moved the mouse first message on screen was " Your system had hardware changes and a system restart is required" Also on the lower right side of the screen in the notifications area there were 3 Radeon Software icons which disappear when mouse is passed over them (all but one that is) If you click on the remaining one an error message pops up saying incorrect driver or mismatch driver Please reinstall driver or update driver. So if you restart the system it goes back to the old Windows 19.30.02 And yes I have posted this in the Feedback Hub and also in the forum.
I did a bare metal install of 19608.1000 and after the install was complete I checked Windows Update again, Windows Update then installed the 27.20.1002.34 driver and then after rebooting WU asked (optional download) and then separately installed the Radeon software. I'd love to upload the driver BUT, Windows Update doesn't leave the usual AMD folder behind for either the driver or software, just bits and pieces scattered. The driver was installed and then the Radeon software was optional, NOT a dependent condition for installing the driver as is usual with the driver package downloaded from AMD. The INF and PNF files for the driver are unusually large @ 429KB and 912KB respectively (the 26.20.12028.2 driver INF file that comes with 19608.1000 is only 328KB) If you know where on the disk Windows Update may have stored the driver or Radeon software install package(s), I'll be happy to look
The driver is in C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository ex: u0353575.inf_amd64_8e19095ae833d985 (folder name) Thank you!

still im having hard locks while playing games that couses my pc to froze with sound looping in background and only hard reset helps - tried new gf drivers and KB4557426 only goin back to old build fix it
I've only done brief tests of 19608 and 19041, but if I recall correctly, I don't think my usual registry policy for disabling Windows Defender was working. I was using this: Code: reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender" /v "DisableAntiSpyware" /t "REG_DWORD" /d "1" /f I'll find out for sure here in an hour or so, but does that still work, or is there another method for disabling Defender? I don't want real-time scanning, or really any part of Defender or Antimalware running in the background.
First you need to disable Tamper Protection, and then disable Defender itself. And even better and easier to use the Defender Control program.
