and those still have to go through various validation checks and isn't an excuse for you to call Microsoft being "lazy." whereas anyone can make icon packs but do those icons need to go through various accessibility, display, etc. tests? No because icon creators think that most users don't have any accessibility issues, etc. in fact UWP developers (developers who publish apps to Microsoft Store) got many complaints from accessibility users, because the icons used for their apps were poorly made and needed to be redesigned from scratch.

Nope. I just downloaded uup on Fedora, installed the dependencies, run uup and after the ISO creation, just create a bootable USB with gnome discs.
I don't have any knowledge about running it in linux, but i do know that on linux no updates are integrated, check if "boot.wim\2\sources\setup.exe" is matching "ISO:\sources\setup.exe", no match then replace the one with the lower build with the one with the higher build and re-test booting.
Perfect fast update from WU. 61 minutes from Check for Updates to Desktop. I know that is slow compared to virtual but better than I am used to.
Tried now with woeusb and now works. System installed but this build is broken on basics for me: both my Realtek NICs are not working. Both with the default drivers installed but no connection. I just only can ping IPs but I can't browser any site or use any windows service (like login with Microsoft account).
network shares dont seem to be working it only see the 21343 machine it dont pick up my other three machines.
@Enthousiast Is there a way we can get these new icons by replacing some DLL files on previous builds?
I just tried testing in Windows 21H1 the new "imageres.dll" and "shell32.dll" files and gets error: "no icons" in these files.
The new icons are in C:\Windows\SystemResources\*.mun (and some of them are in those .dll files too.)
Most of the icons should be in imageres.dll if there are no digital signatures on that file, you can take ownership of the file on your own system rename it to something then copy the one you want the icons from As a last step you'll have rebuild the icon cache. Other icons will be in shell32 which is protected with digital signatures, it's not possible to manipulate that.
What program did you use to parse the icons from those resource files ?? All Icons can't be in one place. They will be scattered all over the place
I wouldn't call that lazy at all ... and look at where we are right now ... those icons are literally being phased out. Simply open up shell32.dll (and other .dll files where the icons are stored), and see how many old icons were removed and redesigned (e.g. the PDA icon, etc.)
In my Windows 20H2 in "Windows Settings / Personalization / Themes / Desktop icon settings" and I tried to change This PC icon selecting the new "imageress.dll" and gets the "no icons" error.
