It is sadly true that it will not work for anyone who did not originally do this from the beginning and it does make me wish this trick had been talked about sooner, rather than later. But all hope is not lost, as Pro-Work does support VL and you can activate it using KMS.
hi to all. I have made Windows 10 ProWS with a digital licence linked to my account. if I want to make a clean fresh install is there an iso for ProWS or during setup i'll have to put the serial 2YV77 and convert it to ProWS? thank you.
Thanks @ambidav ! This worked perfectly. On a VM with a Digital Pro license, Pro Workstation activated build 16275 by Product Key only (did not state Digital License). I then clean installed Pro Workstation to a separate disk partition on the same VM. It did not activate. I then upgraded build 16275 to 16296 using a 16296 ISO and it remained Activated but this time with a Digital License. Also the Product Key was changed to the generic Pro Workstation Product Key ending in *-2YV77. I then booted over to my partition with the clean install of Pro Workstation build 16296 and it now shows Activated with a Digital License. On the upgraded install, the ProduKey utility shows the originally input build 16275 Pro Workstation Product Key for Internet Explorer and the generic Product Key for Windows 10 Pro Workstation.
I think we all have concluded that it wasn't the upgrade from 16257 (not 16275) activated by the product.ini non gVLK to the newer version, that established the HWID activation for Pro-Work, the already established HWID for Pro did the Pro-Work activation and it was not possible to achieve after ambidav reported it, it only still works when you modify the VMX file (or for those who already did achieve pro-work to be activated when it still worked and re-use the same VM). Maybe on 16296 they re-opened the HWID for Pro to be able to also activate Pro-Work again but that i am testing as we speak.
I did this first on a digital licensed Pro Hyper-V VM, but just replicated it on my Windows 10 Pro Licensed physical PC. I began with a clean install (to a partition) of build 16275. I upgraded that with Product Key to Pro Workstation (no Digital License shown, but Activated) then upgraded via ISO (running setup.exe) to 16296 Pro Workstation. I have never seen Pro Workstation activated prior to today. But I do have an existing Digital License for Windows 10 Pro in both cases. Now I have Digital Licenses for Pro Workstation.
First time activating pro-work was achieved: https://forums.mydigitallife.net/th...-windows-10-edition.74909/page-2#post-1364911 by the non gVLK from the product.ini file. My VM testinstall on the old HWID for Pro VM, 16296: No HWID activation
I only just realized (by reading your reply) that I began with a different build than you had originally Activated -- 16275 (not 16257) and it worked using the same Product Key that you had used. Upgrading from the Activated 16275 to another build seems to be the key to switching to a Digital License.
