when i install retal key of proworkstation, it error The product key you entered didn't work (0x80041014)
which version did you install ? the retail key (3VKCP -7QN23-D3GQV-MD2VH-XD863) allows to activate WS for the versions of this range (16251-16288) , then you can upgrade to a more current WS version to get HWID. if you enter the key from home version => full upgrade to WS if you enter the key from pro version => license-switch to WS
Another newbie question: If I'm on build 17115 (Pro for WS), stuck with product key ending 6Q84J, and don't want to reinstall an older build (16251-16288) just to activate, which of the following workarounds would work: (i) install build 16251-16288 on a seperate partion on system C:, activate using retail key ending XD863 for HWID, then delete this install/partition; (ii) install build 16251-16288 on a seperate partion on second internal D:, activate using retail key for HWID, then delete this install/partition; (iii) install build 16251-16288 ISO in Hyper-V, activate using retail key for HWID, then delete this install/VM; ; all three followed of course by switching (xvlk) the current key ending 6Q84J key in current build 17115 to key ending 2YV77. Would be superbly convenient if any of these would work!
I haven't tried this, but you can give either (i) or (ii) a go, and report back. If you activate it, I don't see why your 17115 wouldn't.
I just did a uup of the newest insider preview. Since I already had HWID And digital license through my Microsoft account I installed and logged in and was back with a digital license again. So once you have HWID and reinstall a newer build it stays.
It works the same without the HWID linked to the MSA, with a linked HWID you can always reactivate, on other hardware too. Once a HWID is established it will be valid for the lifetime of the hardware, with or without a linked MSA.
Even with Pro for WS I don't get that Ultimate Performance Plan. Upgrade from Home to Pro for WS or Pro to Pro for WS yields the same result, the power plan is the same, only balanced.
OK it worked. I created a new partition (E: ) on my secondary drive (D: ), clean installed build 16275 and activated using old retail key. I then switched over to my main install (17115 on C: ) and tried to activate using the new retail key but that did not work ("license blocked"). I then went back to the temp install (16275 on E: ) and let Windows Update upgrade to 17115. Again, this didn't work, with the new retail key, saying there was no valid license in my MS account name for activation. So I let the system revert back to 16275 (no new install) and created a GenuineTicket.xml, as well as logged off and on my MS account (thinking the activation should stick for both local and MS account). Then I upgraded to 16299.15, offline using a USB stick, and pasted the XML into the right folder before going online again. This did the trick (16299 or XML or a combo hereof, who knows) and I got the sought after "Windows is activated with a digital license linked to your MS account". I then let Windows update to 17120 with no problem. I then went back to my main install (17115 on C: ) and it activated too! Again, updated to 17120 and no problem. Now I just need to wait for RS4 1803 RTM to come out before I do a spring cleaning with a fresh install
from windows home 16278 entering the key (3VKCP -7QN23-D3GQV-MD2VH-XD863) will allow to do full upgrade to PWS.
Where can I download any of these earlier versions of windows 10 16251-16288 to make a Workstation Iso. I have read the posts not able to get the right uup files and or DISM will not work. Thanks
you can't download Pro WS edition, afaik MS didn't make these versions available for the users. You can either download and install win10 home (16251-16288) then do a full upgrade to WS by entering this key (3VKCP -7QN23-D3GQV-MD2VH-XD863) and get WS activated at the same time or download home (16251-16288) iso and set edition offline to WS using WES tool by @s1ave77 then create a new PWS iso from the new converted install.wim and install WS on your machine then you can upgrade to a more current edition to get HWID. you can download home edition (16251-16288) using UUP dump by @mkuba50 => https://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/uup-dump.75052/
