The proper way has been stated numerous times in this thread. Start by looking on page 64.

If you want a digitally activated ProWorkstation you should read the post right before yours.

Post 1262 is how you do it. The key is post 1272. If you read it you will find that the build you need to install is 16278. There are 81 pages in this thread, and the procedures are outlined many times. It is not so difficult. You just can't start with 16299!

This key does not work on 16299.
I originally had issue trying to figure it all out but these are the steps that I use.
1-UUP download 16278, I only download home edition and not AIO.
2-Use UUP converter to convert the UUP you just downloaded to ISO with install.wim option.
3-Use Wim Switcher to convert home install.wim to PFWS install.wim
4-Use PowerISO to remake the ISO with the new install.wim(will be named install.prowork.wim, rename to install.wim)
    5-Create USB installer.
6-Install newly created PFWS without entering key until after you are in windows, Use activation tab in settings to install key ending in
    XD863

After that is done, use UUP download to download build 16299 home
    repeat steps 2-5
On step 6 you will not need to enter a key, Once you have booted into windows it will be digitally licensed based on your HWID.

On the UUP download tool when it is open press R for release download query, then press O for older builds and you will see it listed there.

SO i tried to do manually using "dism" command and able to see its version but it says "The current edition can not be upgraded to any target editions"

Please advise on how to change SKU to "WS" and also on how to insert key. Many thanks!

You need the Home (Core) index of 16278 to convert this version. Only with builds from 17074 upwards the Pro index can be used likewise.

This is from first line of instructions. You created Professional ISO which does not work. :(

    Thanks s1ave77, sultan & dhjohn ..

I finally got what I want BUT few queries -

    1) winver still shows an expiration date even though the activation says "activated with a digital license"?

    2) after installing 16299 I had an option to "stop insider updates" (to switch to stable/normal OS). But after doing windows update (now it's RS4) I don't seem to find it. Now how can I switch to Normal/Stable OS? Should I rollback to RS3 then try? or a fresh install (with format) is recommended?

    regards,

Yep, you are all good now. If you add your Microsoft Account then if your mobo or hard drive dies, you can click troubleshoot, and still be A-OK!
