I think that Spartan really is just a "front-end", powered by system-integrated back-end services like Cortana, Chakra (JavaScript engine), Edge (rendering engine), etc.. IE isn't that different - technically, the actual issue wasn't IE itself but parts of it (like MSHTML) that have become system components and were integrated into the shell (ActiveDesktop, anyone? ) You could remove IE just fine but you can't get rid of the back-end stuff. PS: I think it's commonly accepted nowadays that all the big vendors, like Apple, Google, bundle their OS with a (their own) browser, so no one is going to sue Microsoft over it. It's a different world today.
I have local Administrator account, I can change, install/uninstall any device or settings without problem. I wonder if you could create a local Admin account and go from there.
That's a pretty good idea actually, thank you. Since the settings should be global anyway once changed by an admin. I will give that a try now. I tried the previous workaround to uninstall and reinstall the driver, but no luck with that.
I went ahead and created another Administrator Account, but this time a Local Account. And to my surprise, the Properties to change TCP/IP settings is still grayed out. Grayed out for all other protocols as well. I was actually pretty confident that your suggestion would work because it makes good sense. But unfortunately it failed. Thank you for trying to help though, I do appreciate that.
I can't also change the TCP/IP configuration on my tablet after upgrading to 10049; the Properties button is also disabled for some reason...
And they haven't bother fixing the Mail, Calendar and People Apps. Neither the notification dropdown for Network Connections in the taskbar (it disappears completely after some use).
Anyone having trouble seeing any shares (other computers) in Network Explorer. It worked in build 10041, but not now.
Spartan is in C:\Windows\SystemApps\Spartan_cw5n1h2txyewy but when click on spartan.exe nothing is happening!
It might already stored the config/account info in system/recovery partition or some hidden place. Usually when I do clean install, I delete that partition, when finish installing, skip network connection, create Local account, unchecked the "Let windows install/update your device drivers ..... automatically..."
On an in-place upgrade, none of your previous settings are changed. On a fresh install of build 10049, Internet Explorer is not on the taskbar, nor is it the default browser.
The correct one should be in C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.Spartan_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Just done a clean install and can access the TCP/IP settings on both my Network cards. Do you guys do Installs or Upgrades Just tested it for you, and YES you can have multiple instances. But 'Right Clicking' the taskbar icon won't do it, you have to choose New Window from the options menu. Yes, that's how I'm using it right now.
Keep in mind guys that when you start Spartan manually from the program files (in the metro programs) you will need to pass in a special switch to the program.
Also you guys are looking in the wrong folder!!! Try: %windir%\SystemApps There you will find spartan.
