Why are you discussing Linux in Win 10 thread. Linux rules everything except gaming but that ain't their fault.

Does Spartan support Active X plugins?

This is indeed very true you need to look at Operating System usage as a whole. Linux is very mainstream because of its usage in most everything. All of us have some form of interaction with Linux on a daily basis from its usage in Web Servers to Smart Phones. It would be simply ignorant to say Windows is the best OS for everything because it really isn't.

@ FerrumMaster: We are discussing it because it was brought up earlier in the discussion. We were discussing the use of Windows on various devices as I pointed out that Windows Phone is Dead on Arrival. Along with Spartan browser which needs a crap ton of work.

The installation, or to be precise: the upgrade from build 10041 to 10049 were simply as slow as I never had!!

Started in the morning and first was that at an 9% of download the Internet was gone. Not a problem from MS, just the Exchange of my ISP were upgraded too (without to inform customers upfront!). At around 11:00 I was getting the Internet back and restarted the download and upgrade. That was finish at 18:25! Firstly at 3% of install the process were idle for an hour, than again at 23% for another hour, at 30% 1½ hour and at 79% for 1h 45mim! The rest of the time needed till 18:25 the install was proceeding, just very slowly.

First start was also need quite a bit of time, 25min, but everything was working normal except:

    1. Spartan,
    2. Settings
    3. most of the Control Panel apps

A total of 3 restarts was needed for to everything back working.

What isn't working is the PIN Code, as in the older builds as well. Maybe that could work with a clean install and use of an different MS Account?!

At this very moment I use Spartan for to connect to MDL and write this post.

Spartan lacks of features and is much more slow than Chrome. Spell Checker is working better in Spartan than in Chrome. To write this post with Spartan is just an test, further on I'll use Chrome again.

I'll need to really check the other apps incl. Dragon to see all of them working as they should. Anyway, is machine is just an older Laptop (Acer 4752G) just working well with newer applications and OS'es. The power is much enough i5/Quad Core, 8GB Memory, 320GB HDD (WD Black Scorpio 7200rpm) Dual Graphic (Intel 128MB and Nvidia 1GB). I use and 2.HDD instead of the DVD for Windows 10, while the Master is 750GB/5400 with Windows 8.1 Pro. I use the BIOS Boot Manager for to chose what HDD/OS I like to start.

The interesting will be 2 different kind Apps: 3D Graphics and PHP etc. programming with this build. Games are not normally used, maybe I'll install X-Plane and/or FS-X Steam edition for to test.

I have no problems with Cortana and Windows Store. Both of them working just fine.

OK, let see the next few days how this build will go!!

When it comes to mainstream devices Windows outdone Linux(which is based on Unix kernel). The dominant OS for PC that trending is Windows, in mobile devices compared to Linux it is still leading. We are not going to say because Android is based on Linux Kernel it is Linux in a nutshell but Android OS. Let's agree that Windows powered more devices than Linux.

Seems to be that you forget that OS-X and iOS is also based on Unix!! For mobile device, Windows simply isn't the most used OS! For Personal Computer it is, no doubt with that!

Windows 8 was still clearly Windows 7 as anyone who managed to ignore the Metro stuff could see. ;)
You right adding all that Metro stuff did affect the running of the OS in some ways. But the bigger problem was the way some parts were nailed on, others screwed on and the whole lot held together with Duck Tape. Thats what really turned people off.
And it wasn't just the Apple mind-set on UI that caused problems, the whole 'I know better than you' approach that Job's got away with and Sinofsky couldn't.

I'm trying trying to workout the Apps on Windows thing too.
You have tens of thousands of real programs that work on Windows, so why is everyone bitching about a few CSS/Java based Apps
But then again I'm a Windows Phone user, so I'm no expert on Apps.

    p.s. WP8.1 FTW... :p

Android is the most used OS but it is not dominant in mainstream devices like Windows. Even Windows dwarfs it as the most used OS for desktop.

I would actually disagree. IOS / OSX is unix with a new look to it (aka the father of linux) and Android is linux with java support thrown in. I have no doubt however with personal computers Windows is the winner however as a whole I would say there are more Linux devices than there are Windows devices.

Now to get back on topic. Spartan needs a freaking ton of work if its going to be a viable alternative to Internet Explorer. Also why is it only a Metro browser? I mean if they wanted to replace it that is all well and good but to limit to only Windows 8 through Windows 10 is kinda pathetic. It alienates a good percentage of the market that still uses Windows 7.

I am yet to complete my installation of build 10049. When I do I would have one or more things to say on Project Spartan. But, this is just a preview test of the browser and more is not to be expected from it at the moment though.

That's what I wrote in my post: on mainstream device, YES Windows is most used but Mobile devices! And Mobile devices are also Smart Phones and Tablets! Laptops too, in wider view, but in real an Laptop is just and personal computer!

Android is simply based on Linux, not just the Kernel only. Android is and should be classified as an Linux based OS and that's exactly what Android is about!

So there seems to be a "Bio Enrolment" App (probably something with Windows Hello and the new Microsoft Passport) but it doesn't seem to run.
