I did a clean 9901 install on other PC and it greeted me with a requirement to log in with my MSN acct. How do I log out of that and just boot straight to the desktop?
I am beginning to enjoy leaks. I really don't know why but it makes me feel there are things which need to be reported and fixed for better Windows 10 OS.
Is someone still using 9879? How does this build run after updates? Is explorer and printer spooler is ok now? AFAIK there wasn't updates for 9888 explorer bug, isn't it? What info do you have?
Even after the updates explorer in 9879 still has that GDI leak, which is fixed in 9901. IMO 9901 is all around a better build.
Glad I installed 9901 then. However, I read a lot of reports here in these threads saying 9901 was slow to install, lol what a lie. Started at about 6:15pm and was at the desktop at around 6:23 or 24, but it was definitely less then 10 minutes. Was already installing the first drivers at 6:25pm. It has accepted all of my Intel drivers, the Raid drivers, the new AMD drivers etc. Not one tiny little problem as of yet. Although, I have noticed that a few items seem not as stable as they were in 8.1. For example emptying the trash can seems slower then normal. Installing Chrome was much more difficult this time around because IE11 refused to give me the download page lol. I should have downloaded the setup.exe before hand though so that is my bad. Too tired to keep investigating but I agree its nice to try these leaks out and I am going to be using the reporting mechanism to let them know what I think and where they can improve. Good job on 9901 so far.
I installed 9901 on my system from a usb drive prepared by Microsoft's Windows 7 USB Tool. I downloaded the iso uploaded by Paul. It installed fine on my BIOS enabled system and didn't notice bugs apart from what were reported here. Had to roll back because I couldn't install VirtualBox, which I need for android development. If anybody has managed to install VirtualBox kindly share the version number and/or method of installation. Mine gets stuck at almost the finishing point of installation.
check task manager while its finishing its install. Remove all win installs found except the 1 (or 2) largest resource ones being used. The rest if any should be idle and probably holding it up.
I'm wondering now if anybody would be able to use explorer.exe from 9901 in previous builds to prevent the GDI leak in earlier builds. I know some users were trying stuff like that with previous builds, but not sure about 9901.
Does anyone know how to customize the behavior of the file explorer upon opening? In Windows 7 its default open action was Libraries, but you could change that to replicate the windows 8.1 way of going directly to "This PC" by adding "" to the end of the executable path... I want Windows 10 to behave the same way as 8.1. Go directly to "This PC" upon opening. Since Windows 8, you cant change the properties of explorer.exe anymore to replicate the option in Windows 7. So not sure how to do it. I wouldnt mind so much if you could customize "Home" to look like "This PC". But with lots of faffing around, I still cant get it to look how I want. Anyone got any ideas? I found this the most useful feature change in Windows 8. So much so, I add "" to every windows 7 PC I ever use now... Thanks EDIT: Sort of work around, just realized you can drag "This PC" to the task bar and it will behaves how you would expect... Would still like to get the default File Explorer option changed though if possible... But this will do for the moment. EDIT 2: Except clicking the new shortcut highlights file explorer as running instead... Not the cleanest solution at all. EDIT 3: Ok. Now ive sort of broken my file explorer by following this guide... h**p://superuser.com/questions/819521/how-to-make-windows-10-file-explorer-open-this-pc-by-default Which sort of works, but has left me with 6 blank icons with no name which do nothing under the heading unspecified. Nor can I pin anything else to home... Could someone post me what the reg keys are supposed to be under KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HomeFolder\NameSpace\DelegateFolders please?
Making a prediction here: The final build number for Windows 10 will be 10000 The reason why, to match the name of the next Windows version
I haven't had a chance to listen to the podcast yet, so I can't say how trustworthy it is, but Thomas is just the messenger in this case, not important (Oh and he is the dev behind the Metro version of VLC on Windows and WP, so people do know him ) + Neowin mentioned something similar a while back and there's "Spartan", a new codename for IE vNext
