If, for example, I want the file explorer to open at the root of Windows 10, this is what I have done through 7 to 10.

    Open the file explorer.
Unpin the icon from the task bar.
Click the folder you wish to have as your primary - in my case, Windows 10.
Right click the folder and create a shortcut on the desktop.
Right click the shortcut and pin to start
Open start, and your new item is there. Right click it and pin it to the task bar.

Several operations, but all quick and no operation of downloads needed.

Thanks for this Heidegger. Went through it and; short story, I now have File Explorer pinned to my task bar, opening as it should. Long story, it also completely messed up my Home screen. But as I have no intention to use the Home Screen unless they drastically change it in later builds, I couldn't care less. Pinned "This PC" to start menu too to completely remove any links to Home.

I tried this before. Unfortunately, when you pin "This PC" to the task bar, when you click it, it then opens up in File Explorer on the task bar. So you have a shortcut which just opens up another shortcut. Its works, but it is not aesthetically pleasing.

On step 3 directly drag any item from Explorer to taskbar. You don't need creating shortcuts twice

Hello everyone I have the build 9879 installed on my laptop and everything runs smoothly except two problems :
1- the caps lock light. it is not working after installing this build.
2- My windows explorer keeps crashing and the cause turned to be Media player classic. While I watch videos and go to the desktop the icons disappear and some aren't responsive to mouse clicks and the same is applied to the task bar when I try to ope task manager. When I uninstall it everything runs just fine. I really Like MPC and I use because it is the best.. is there away to fix this problem ?

For the 1st one there's no fix for this build, it will most likely be fixed in fbl_awesome (January 21st build) and for the 2nd I think there's a Windows Update for that.

Where exactly do we change the compatibility settings? I been right-clicking on everything I install and selecting Windows 8, which I think is what I did for the Chrome install. But do we need to change the exe in the program file folder as well?

EDIT: Wow, now this is where the world gets weird for me. Compatibility mode Vista SP2 completely breaks Chrome for me, all three versions of it. Only Windows 7 and 8 works. I am using the 32bit version of Chrome.
