So I just learned something at MDL: An OS is the same as a Driver. I will tell it my English teacher (if he should still be alive).
Don't worry too much about it. I am English and have been using computers almost since there innovation as desktops. I had not heard the expression until I read it in the thread.I can see, as is hinted , that it is often used in connection with Androids. I don't think you will find it in any English dictionary other than the one mentioned.
we're not supposed to make it this big are we? by driver they are not referring to an actual driver... how about we change the topic title to "OS Means Actual Driver or not?"
I am not a native english speaker as well, but I do know the meaning. As @davehc said I am an Android geek and it is a term used by Android geeks a lot. But I heard that this phrase is being used by other geeks as well. As @Mrox2 said we were not supposed to make it this big. Just look from the bright side. Everyone added a new vocabulary word to his thesaurus. Let's get back to the topic and talk about what will 21.1.15 event bring to us.
Simple explanation: When one speaks of "daily driver", it means he or she refers to something specific he or she can use reliably on a daily basis (like in "it drives me through the day"). This can be an OS, but also a car, a bicycle, your converse sneakers etc. etc. I'm German as well and I get the meaning - it's all about language experience. There are subtle things in every language that you just cannot translate word by word. You have to get the meaning, and that comes from experience.
We might get something on the 21st, maybe a newer build of Win10, maybe not...please stay tuned... A few more days and all will be back to normal here... "daily driver" - American term for wife.
Aaahhhhh - now I understand the correlation between "daily driver" and OS: All wifes are somehow "Operating Systems".
This is the best inference ever. You nailed it. (It is another slang which most probably not thought by teachers. But please don't get confused)
I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be THE WORST BUILD AND WINDOWS EVER! We are used to that, but here hoping MS is doing the right thing and thats fbl_awesome is awesome
Yes, that's right, they are human operating systems but i've a question: All of these wifes are technical previews? In fact of this, all wifes are being in a development process? If that, this can explain almost everything ...
