Microsoft held its technical preview press event today in San Francisco where they showed off the first bits of the upcoming OS. As previously said, Microsoft will be releasing a technical preview for the public to try out ahead of the retail launch. The technical preview will be available tomorrow at around 8am (GMT+1) and the downloads will come in at around 4GB for the 64-bit variety and around 3GB for the 32-bit version.
If they say tomorrow, it will be tomorrow. I'd guess that means not until 12:00 am Redmond time. Which is about seven and a half hours from now, and that is how long you have to wait at least. Therefore, I suggest everybody just calm down and chill, and take some sleep if you happen to be in Europe. Tomorrow will be exhausting enough.
Guess I better plan to be at some high-speed internet location when it arrives; my DSL connection won't cut it
It will not be released at exactly midnight. People read tomorrow and automatically that means it will have to be released at midnight since that's when tomorrow begins More likely in the morning or early afternoon. What is it that you do that you think Microsoft and the NSA would want to watch you? Serious question. You paranoids freak out over nothing. You do realize it would be impossible for either one to actually watch and record the data of every single person using an internet connected device right? Now tell me what it is that you do that would make them want to watch you personally. There's something you're doing that would get their attention or you're jumping on the "hate the NSA even though I don't understand what everyone is actually talking about" bandwagon.
Wait people still use DVD? And splitting for CD's? Really get a flash drive they cost pittance these days. It is cheaper to buy a USB stick than like 50 DVD's or 50 CD-R's. It will outlast the stack of whatever and can be used over and over multiple times. Oooo and its quicker!
hxxp://blogs.windows.com/business/2014/09/30/introducing-windows-10-for-business/ "Some of what we are working on will show up in the Windows 10 Technical Preview we’ll release on October 1st"
most likely his post was not paranoid but just about the fact that data is the new currency. free os and giving nothing in exchange? won't happen
As opposed to, what, 3GB for the 32-bit version will fit on a CD? Or even Windows Vista? Windows hasn't fit on a CD (needed a DVD) SINCE BEFORE WIN VISTA!
Redmond, October 1st, 2014, 08:00 AM: 1. Guy walks into office 2. Guy boots PC 3. Guy logs in 4. Guy opens Azure portal 5. Guy makes Windows 10 TP download site public 6. Guy leaves office to grab a cup of coffee after that hard work while thousands of enthusiasts around the globe get a heart orgasm.
I hope Microsoft understands what they are exposing themselves to with the Insider feedback program. I'm going to grill them on a handful of UI decisions, the lack of a real terminal, a defrag-less NTFS successor that has journaling, and a ton of other things needed to bring Windows up to speed with basic Linux desktops.
They know 99% of what they get wont be positive. People only ever report negative stuff. The program will be setup with that in mind and you will be doing them a favour If they cares what the majority wanted things like removing the start menu could have been put to a vote on a poll on the microsoft site or something. Same could be done with other big UI changes and background changes. Sometimes users don't really know what they want though and can't see the future. Sometimes going against the negative feedback will give positive outcomes overall. Even if 99% of the feedback you get is negative about 1 feature that does not mean more people using the product are not happy about the feature it just means 99% of people moaning are they are likely the minority anyway.
