I think it meant it'll be a free upgrade for the first year the OS is out. So if you wait 400 days after Windows 10 comes out, and you want it; you'll have to buy it. But if you wanted Windows 10 100 days after it launched, then you can have it for free. But it's not entirely clear what was meant.
Don't forget that they had to pre-announce this event sufficiently due to the dozens or hundreds of people traveling to it from around the country if not the world. They tried to skate to where the puck was going to be, and they misjudged a bit. The alternative was to get a build all set and then schedule the event a couple weeks out from that. Then people would have complained about getting an "old" build.
That's the point. Anyway, I was surprised they shared information in this regards today. I didn't expect to hear anything about the upgrade story just yet.
They should have given out a USB stick with the Consumer Preview to everyone in attendance there and open up the gates to us Insiders along with the event, in my opinion. They got so much hype going for it with this event. A week from now the hype will be less than it is today.
You certainly have a good point here, however, considering the resources MS has, considering how they have been under the gun ever since the release of Win 8, considering I am entitled to my opinion...MS blew it big bleeping time. MS should send some of the hot air they spent today to Boston to air up the Patriots balls...
They said within a week, so it's that close yet they can't give a specific date still after all that. Very strange.
No aero glass, no new build today, no other meat thrown to someone like me who is a power user and has an desktop PC and a mouse and keyboard. Overall I'm pretty disappointed. They didn't even really show any new GUI improvements. Same flat and minimalist 1980s style.
Yeah I'm pretty disappointed by the lack of an official build too. Had all my backups handled and was ready to run downtown to a place with faster internet to both download the build and upload the last few videos I had.
There was supposed to be mention of the Terms Of Use update as well but I don't recall hearing anything about that during the event.
Certainly glad I decided to start modifying my bios...been steadly clicking it to unlock everything since the "disappointment" started. I was only halfway paying attention and also watchin family guy. At least it was not a total waste. Almost done totally unlocking my ASROCK UEFI bios.
Imagine what this means for this thread! OK, let's go back arguing about whether we need Aero to come back or not.
Does anyone remember the rumors I think back before Windows 8 or 7 where we were supposed to have a totally 3D desktop environment or something?
