blogs.windows.com/bloggingwindows/2015/01/21/the-next-generation-of-windows-windows-10/ Windows will not be some sort of subscription based service after you upgrade from 7 or 8 (sourced from their blog) HOWEVER, At the bottom it notes Also see windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/about It will be updated for the lifetime of the device, meaning forever.
So let me get this straight. Windows 10 will be free for those who own Win7,8 and 8.1. After a year passes, the OS becomes subscription based service? If so booo, I ain't paying a monthly fee.... Sell it full price or get nothing from me.
@Harry t Doesn't read that way to me. Sounds like Win 7 and 8.1 (Win 8 users will have to go to 8.1 to get the upgrade) will get the upgrade totally free. No subs. Time will tell though but they must know hows reluctant people are to upgrade so sticking a monthly charge on makes little sense
to avoid keylogger/privacy worries boot with ubuntu from a pendrive make private stuff then boot back
Guess you did not read the statements a head of yours, lol... I bet I still have to pay for it. All my Microsoft OS's have all been from Technet from 2003 until 2013. So, I guess they won't tell us what it will cost us who do not have a retail license until much later maybe? And I somehow doubt my 10 years of paying for a Technet sub will be included in this free deal, lol... Oh well maybe they will surprise me...
this doesnt make sense, people are complicating it, it will be free for a limited time which is the first year, done. Updates? every Windows had updates, nothing says that it wont be optional, updates are good anyway, whats the problem? updates will remain as is, install them when you want thats all, all we care about right now is the new build, BRING IT ON!
Which means: dead board, trashed license, get a new one! Sounds to me Windows 10 makes use of hardware hash based activation technology.
looks like Microsoft is getting ready to get their servers hammered. They are probably buying more bandwith and uploading the images now. They should really offer torrents as it is more reliable, offers faster download speeds and requires less load on their servers.
So what is gone happen to ARM chips? For example I would be able to load a x86 program to Windows 10 ARM SoC and run it?
