Absolutely no idea which build it was But as none of the Insider or Partner builds have had Spartan yet, you can pretty sure its an Internal one. p.s. Why is everyone scrambling to get Spartan, I thought I was the only one on this forum that uses IE
but then what happens if those files get corrupted. then your still forced to do a clean install from media. also even with windows 8.1, I still do clean installs if there is system problems. I get a icky feeling even if one file is messed up.
Well then. Looks like it is an evolution of WIMBOOT. I will have to play with the ADK a bit to learn more about this Compressed OS feature since it claims to move away from a static WIM which is what WIMBOOT does today. How it does that and still stay secure and undamaged in order to work as a recovery image/solution for PBR is kind of escaping me now. In any event, it seems like some additional research and time with the ADK is required to learn more.
It certainly won't be as forgiving as a image, you'd have to delete system files to start breaking the new recovery option though. I'd imagine that permissions and so on are all restored to their defaults though. Maybe they are even working on a cloud connected option for later so that it just pulls possibly missing files from Microsofts server which would make this new recovery option much more resilient.
While stuck at a cold bus stop this morning Something occurred to me, My main PC has a 120GB SSD (which due to my bad file management, always seems to be running out of room ) Using a compressed install on that would free up around 10% of the SSD. And if an Atom CPU with 2GB RAM can handle the compression. A 2.+Ghz Quad Core with 6GB RAM should have no problem. The question is when are those files checked and/or corrected by the cloud If its done while reinstalling you could up in real trouble if your can't access the cloud. You've all had fun trying to install systems when these no NIC drivers on the Windows Image, and if its done periodically it will really slow down these low powered devices. So I guess that means while there charging.
Finally a new "leak" build? I would love to thank osbetaarchive and Hounsell on behalf of all of us, I was dying for a new build, looks like the start is trasnperent, but I still dont like it... can anyone who downloaded it confirm if the registry hack to enable the Win32/Old Start menu and screen still work?
Ooop's messed up again, well that's nothing new for me. Close its 120GB, the extra 8GB was to much for me. Fixed now,
People wanted transparency, they gave transparency, not the alpha blended transparency Windows 7-esque that people really want.
I was hoping for the 'Open and Honest' type of transparency, but that appears to be some what opaque too
