I will check out this test version and report later. For testing VirtualBox on Windows 10 TP, I have to go through the process of making a Ghost image of my Win10TP partition and then install, reboot etc. Maybe I can just stick with good ol' 4.3.14, which works well with Portable installer for me.
Been doing pretty good with this new version of windows, I'm enjoying it quite a bit... but one thing is missing (or I haven't found it D "Estimated Data Usage" is missing from the network area. I really liked having the ability to see how much data I use. (in month periods).
Just feel free to do it the way you want, everybody has their one way of making a backup. The point is that you stated it was the only way to go back to a working system, I do not agree. Here is what I do: 1. Install Windows and all the updates you want. 2. Install all the software you want. 3. Make an image. 4. Tweak all the settings you want and every time your PC is running fine make an image. To make an image with Macrium Reflect is super easy and takes 4 minutes on my PC. After a while you can delete old images. If you train yourself to do this, you always can go back to an earlier point. People may ask why I don't use System Restore. In the past I have experienced System Restore is not reliable, it sometimes does not what it suppost to do. Sometimes can't even restore at all! In the old days with Ghost and nowadays with Macrium Reflect I am a happy tweaker!
I found that if I log in with admin rights it works just fine. Otherwise will not connect for me either.
Fact is, if you like to use the extended features of Macrium Reflect it get's quite expensive while the Free Version is just quite limited. I had 2 bad images with Macrium Reflect as testing some times ago and that keeps me out from use it again. What I need to do by creating an Image of an System HDD (NOT SSD!!) is to create that Image from the whole content of that HDD. In my cases it's never below 120GB, most of the time above 200GB! While using HDClone 5 Enterprise, it gives me the ability to clone at the same time up to 16 HDD's what MR couldn't! I've 12 WindowsToGo drives out with my staff for servicing customers and I've another 8 drives in my office for the same purpose. Those later I use for to test new OS'es etc. like Windows 10TP. Simple fact is, the cost for the software (HDClone) is much less than Macrium Reflect would cost me for my needs! Second major point for me is that I never had problems with any of the stored Images, which I keep on 3TB HDD's. Those are in my Data Safe if not needed. Now the whole gets even better for me because I could create the Master from an normal installation with all needed apps installed using WinToUSB, what I couldn't do with the MS internal WondowsToGo Workspace Creation! That saves me a lot of time and trouble too! On the end of a day, it's an question of experiences what's working and what didn't! For me, after done a lot experiences with a lot different software, HDClone is the only one which never failed, not once!
In the old days with a standard LPT laplink and nowadays with nothing due to non-necessity of such tools I am a happy tweaker
As always, it's all about you need to do WHAT and with which apps you're most happy! That's for sure OK for private and/or home use, but in corporate environments. For private and home use you could just simply 'play around' with that stuff while in corporate you couldn't, Data Security has to be on first place!
Damned!! Don't tell us you don't partition your drive, with your C: as the one and only OS storage space... How the hell can you have a single Windows drive image of more than 100GB?? Even with lots of software installed, it hardly reaches that mark...
BTW, AFAIC, I've been using O&O DriveImage's Start/Boot CD for years and it has never failed on me so far... Very reliable piece of software indeed. I highly recommend it, for what it's worth.
