[DISCUSSION] Windows 10 Technical Preview Build 9926

Well it sucks that I keep getting the Black Screen of Death in 9926. Kept on downgrading until I can't get it anymore.

 

Thanks, I knew the location and what to change but my machine would lock up as soon as I tried to select the background tab. I didn't know if it were something related to the Technical Preview Build. Reloaded the OS and all is fine.

Speaking about fun, I guess you could try to speculate on the WMC question you mentioned.... now, on theory, the WMC key could only be applied to a retail key activated win8/8.1 Pro, that means you couldn't use the same OS to get 2 win10 keys(one from the retail key, one from the WMC key).

So, if your WMC was activated by "some other means(like the dat thing)", I wonder if you could get a win10 key out of it, even if the key is legit and activated directly on-line.

Of course, ATM it's all guesses and speculations.

AMD card? If so it's not a Windows 10 issue. It's AMD and their junk drivers.

all versions of virtualbox are known to cause problems with TP 9901 upwards. the system is always rendered un-bootable even after successful installation. the only way i have managed to run virtualbox, is through virtualbox-portable. if you managed to reboot the system after installing virtualbox, i would request you to share the exact steps for the benefit of the community.

Do you realise that it's shown due to ThresholdInternal = 1? And you can't download it or any other ESD from other labs because of failure to authenticate with Microsoft's corp ADFS?

Yeah, that's a nice idea, but I don't think it will work.

IIRC, the last time I rebuilt that PC. I went straight to Windows 8.1 Update1. And it wouldn't take the OEM or WMC keys, so I used the STD PRO install key. After install it still wouldn't take the WMC key, but did take the OEM key
BUT... It didn't activate, after a couple of reboots it still hadn't activated and showed the Pro watermark
Even after adding the WMC key, doing the upgrade to WMC and rebooting, it still didn't activate.
Hence the Phone Activation.

My guess is when the upgrade was registered at MS, your original key (Retail or OEM) was de-registered, which is why it wont activate on its own. But, it may still pass with the Phone Activation system.
Assuming that doesn't phone home to MS's servers

 

So many thoughts\guesses\assumptions - so few facts. Going to be really funny when Windows 10 is released and activated by sending in 3 box tops from Kellogg's Corn Flakes and $1.10.

ETA - In addition to activation, you also get a secret decoder ring to kill off all the damn metro app crap.

 

Using the 'Interesting' currency conversion that normal get used for this side of the pond that price will be something like:
30 box tops from Kellogg's Corn Flakes and £11.00 for your FREE activation.
Plus I bet they'll charge P&P or Import TAX on the secret decoder ring

 

I hope that Microsoft will release a new build soon. 9926 is getting boring already
