So is Build 26H1 still a special build for certain laptops or are 25H2 users eventually going to get an in-place upgrade?
26H1 is and stays a scoped release, normal users will never be steered towards it. Everyone on 25H2 will get upgraded to 26H2 when it's due.
insider builds have different base build version for the last few years MSFT is making several base builds, insider ones have a timebomb
I've been said/saying this here multiple times earlier, There's absolutely no issue/problem using this build as a daily driver; many users, including myself been using this 26H1 since its release in Nov/Dec 2025, and IMO it's better/more stable than earlier 24H2/25H2; many other fellow users also said the same from their experience, which you can find from the earlier post(s) in this thread.
MS should have never released this for x64, soon, the questions on how to "upgrade" 26H1 to 26H2 will start. Before anyone asks: Not at all, it would be technically a downgrade, as 26H2 is based on 26xxx, not 28xxx.
