Has anyone tried to remove edge, defender security etc from 24h2? Asking because of when I removed some packages from 24h2 windows update refuses to install security updates. Nor is possible to install updates manually.
Aveyo told this before long time But people still do it Remove defender.. will cause updates to fail ( Windows 11 very sensitive .. for that )
Yep, the only change from .994 to .1000 is: The Input Method Editor (IME) candidate list fails to show or shows in the wrong position. This update addresses this issue.
Hello What is the difference between the Snipping Tool native to Windows 11 and this version of more than 160MB (and which seems older) ? Thanks
Same thing, and it's not old, they are just abusing the versioning format for older packages sometimes. Take a closer look at the version: 2022.2405 is actually May 2024, they just stopped bothering with the first yearly number.
2022.2405 is 161MB 2021.2104 is 8MB And same date for both packages I looked with the one present in the 24h2, it is around 50MB (and the version is 2024.xxxx indicated on the directory) And seems more recent (impossible to install the 160MB version for test because I get the message that a more recent version is already installed)
Wow, OK I have to report this, but FINALLY Windows handles HDR PROPERLY!!! The screen is no longer washed out and dull due to constraining the colour primaries to sRGB values, making reds look orange and all colours undersaturated. There is a new option in the Display Properties screen called "Automatically manage colour for Apps", and it's a game-changer, I can finally leave Windows in HDR mode all the time and no longer get a washed out, low contrast mess. It's only taken Microsoft 6 years to do it, but wow, it looks good now!
It says that when HDR is on, Windows already automatically manages colour for apps. So one would think that that setting is not needed? Cheers.
It was not enabled when I found the option. Another thing I should mention is that you have to turn the slider for SDR brightness to maximum, as the screen is just too dark for SDR content. The slider defaults to 30% and always has done, no idea why! This is the first time that I can finally leave HDR switched on and have no drawbacks using it, as it was completely unusable outside of games before, so I no longer just have to enable it when I want to play a game! On a different note, I have found no real issues with 24H2 so far, apart from NVCleanstall (an nVidia driver customizer utility) is no longer is able to sign the display driver properly, resulting in a driver install failure. I think maybe MS has changed the security around driver signing. So far, I feel this version and build is more performant than 23H2. But it's early days.
That's right, it is not on because you have HDR enabled. The slider has effect when HDR is not enabled. When HDR is enabled, colors are managed automatically so you don't need the slider. That's why it is in the "off" position. Cheers.
24h2 is still 23h2 with bumped up version number, look in the id's with vivetool, 23h2 enablement is present and enabled Another half baked OS
UI animation stuttering bug still presents in .1000; anyway, disabling fast startup will prevent this stuttering behavior.
When clean installing 24H2, the PC restarts and the volume that shows first doesn't regard it but the previous 23H2 install. In previous Windows versions, the most recent install was the default volume. As if it wasn't enough, I can't access the 24H2 install content from the 23H2 one since the former's partition doesn't appear in File Explorer (but I can access the 23H2 install from the 24H2 one) and 24H2 takes a lot of time to install. Also, why is the 23H2 install called "Volume 3" and not "Volume 1" (or "Volume 2") and the 24H2 one called "Volume 4" and not "Volume 2" (or "Volume 1") when I only have two Windows installs? EDIT: I will install Windows 11 Pro 23H2 since 24H2 wasn't publicly released yet (at least for non-Copilot+ PCs, like mine).
Not how I read this, as we seem to be seeing differently on this button. As I said, this button was off when I enabled HDR, so I enabled it. I've owned an HDR monitor for 3 years, and I'm telling you that this is the first time I have been able to leave HDR switched on while not in a game. Feel free to Google how many people complain about this and how awful Windows looks in HDR mode! The desktop, Edge, all apps are now working in the native colour space of the monitor, not just sRGB anymore. The end result is the colours are correctly shown in Rec2020 throughout the entire OS now. And the slider is not available if you don't have HDR enabled, it is there when HDR is on... Brightness is separate and has nothing to do with this, and thus the SDR slider is available when you enable HDR and Auto app colour management... You need to separate managed colour primaries and brightness, they are two very separate things here. What I'm telling you is that Windows is now converting sRGB to Rec2020/BT.2020, that's the "colour management" you and Windows are referring to, and that's what is causing the magic to happen, as previous versions of Windows do not do this. We still need Microsoft to manage Gamma, or offer the user a way to manage it, as HDR uses a standard of 2.4 and the PC standard is 2.2, so you get a slightly lighter presentation, but managing colour correctly is a HUGE step up for MS!
