Hi everyone — for Windows 11 LTSC 2024, do I still need to install patches after 26100.1742 to maintain compatibility and stability? I've looked into the subsequent patch releases and they all seem to have reported compatibility and stability issues. Or is there a specific patch version recommended to fix the problems introduced by 26100.1742? My work involves testing a lot of games, including their anti-cheat software. Sometimes Microsoft's Windows system updates cause these games or software to crash, or even crash the system itself. So I really need a stable, highly compatible build for testing. With that in mind, are there any specific Windows versions you'd recommend?
For safety always patch. I never look for problems, never see any, most problems are in specific situations. Testing games should be done (imho) on the latest patches, that is always best practice, customers can have all patches or none, in case of none, it's their own problem You're asking in one of the most specific windows (ltsc) threads, which is not recommended for gaming afaik. I don't game but considering games always will follow the latest trends and tech iltsc will run behind any time soon, not getting new features and such.
I have been using LTSC for long time now, and i do gaming as well, and i literally get higher fps and stable game performance. because the ltsc doesnt have any bloatware. here is the crazy part i use to prefer pro edition for gaming, but after some updates the game would become choppy and start to lag and on ltsc i have never had such experience for me its the best and stable edition for gaming.
Just like the recently released patch KB5121003, which caused bugs in several games, the ultimate issue comes back to the patches themselves. While the latest patches fix security vulnerabilities, those vulnerabilities aren't of much use to regular users. What everyday users actually need is a stable, highly compatible environment to run various games and software. When the newest patch causes issues, the only option is for the game or software developers to release an update. However, many applications are no longer maintained and will never receive updates. Therefore, is there a recommended patch version that is relatively stable, or is it better to skip updates altogether?
I get this issue too. Every few months some patch screws up my work computers. If you want to be extra careful, postpone updates for 2 weeks and run them at the end of the month. You can't skip updates if you want to reproduce the configuration on most gamers' rigs. As you said, sometimes the patches are the ultimate cause of issues. Sometimes it will be the drivers, sometimes it will be the games.
Hi Gents. I've been following this thread for some time now. I installed Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC on my Main PC March 23, 2026 which was a big leap of faith for me. Only Windows Updates (Security and Defender Antivirus) have been installed. While it's been pretty much rock solid, I still find myself missing the odd feature from Pro. (Surprisingly their Photos App is one of them for images.) I don't have an understanding as to what is the purpose of all these Patches I see posted here. Can you enlighten me? Thanks for the assist.
= It are officially WU updates, optional ones. It's enabled by a reg setting on 10 LTSC, dunno if that is also an option for 11, i used MRP for it when i installed this PC.
So these optional updates need to be looked at to see what Features they install or enable? I did find a way to enable the already installed Windows Photo Viewer using Notepad and saving it with All Files type enabled. It seems to work okay. I don't know what MRP means.
Enable Microsoft Store by running "wsreset -i". To get winget working Google for "app installer" to find the Microsoft Store page for it and install it. Use Microsoft Store or winget to find the Photos app
The august CU update seems particularly nasty. I dont like how these patches change so much stuff now. If I install July patch instead, is that one considered to be reasonably stable? Or are all the patches a mess in one way or another? Windows 11 is always in the news now days with bodged updates.
